Name the 5,000 most common (incl ties, so 5001 – SEE NOTES) English nouns before time runs out. Use LOWER CASE and NO PUNCTUATION. TIP: go for categories to get EXTRA TIME early on.

NOTES: The word frequency is taken from the 60,000 word frequency list from the COCA website . It is a LEMMA word list – meaning plural forms of a noun are combined and counted together i.e. “books” is under “book.” When an answer is guessed it will go in the table and its rank as well as rank within nouns starting with its letter will be shown below left of the table. A handful of abbreviations, slang, and proper nouns are included. The COCA corpus is based on words taken from various mediums from 1990-2012, so it is quite recent in its focus. Clicking on a RANGE will show starting letters and word lengths for unanswered entries. TIME BONUSES are given for certain categories, such as total nouns, nouns of a certain length, top N nouns, etc. The bottom left table shows the top N nouns in a row you have answered for each starting letter up to 50…i.e. if there is a “4” under “R” you have the four most common nouns starting with “R”.
