7/26/2017 – Hi again – I’m looking to hopefully by the end of August begin redoing the site with a fresh look and new features, hopefully to be done sometime before the end of September. This includes a new design, appearance, scorekeeping (hopefully with live leaderboards) and more. Keep an eye out! Also I will be removing the Flash quizzes and geography quizzes that aren’t using Google Maps by then (remaking some of them after the remodel) to make the site more clean and organized.

Begin by typing in *ANY* US place that is NOT in the top 50 largest cities (50th largest is Arlington, TX with a pop of about 365,000) which qualifies for places I use for population quizzes – SEE NOTES BELOW QUIZ FOR NAMING RULES. Then, name the 50 closest places to it WITH A LARGER POPULATION. You only get 5 minutes but there are 3 min bonuses at 25 and 40 cities. PLEASE NOTE: high scores for this only will be recorded for cities of 50K+ population. *NOTE* typing will lag while you type in the place name, this is normal..once a place is in correctly give it a moment and the table will fill in with the 50 closest larger place distances and populations. Also note distances are from geographical centers, which may not always be near the population center or ‘downtown’ area.

NOTES: The places you can choose include all cities, towns, villages, etc EXCEPT: CDP’s (with the exception of HI), most townships, NY towns, unincorporated places, etc. To input the place type it in the format City, State – examples are “Chicago, IL”, “Grand Forks, ND”, “Winston Salem, NC” – DO NOT use any punctuation except the comma separating the name and state – you must use that comma. There is a very small percentage of places with the same name in the same state – to select the correct one you need to put a number after it corresponding to its overall population rank among those with the same name in that state. For example, there are multiple Madison, WI’s – to choose the capital and largest Madison, simply add a ‘1’ after – i.e. ‘Madison, WI1’.
