Each time you go to a new city the squares are randomly redrawn and with a size 10% smaller. The first 10 cities will be among the state's 25 largest, the next 10 in 26th-50th, next 10 51st-100th and the balance (until you run out of time or guess wrong) will be 101st-250th largest. When you guess wrong the correct location will be shown as a pink marker.

For states with less cities the quiz may complete earlier - i.e. NV only has 19 places so it will choose 10 randomly from those and after those the quiz will be over as there is no 26th-50th largest tier.
