The water suddenly became still. From beneath the waves rose a magnificent creature—a woman with silver hair, eyes like moonlight, and a shimmering tail covered in turquoise scales.

“I am Nerissa, guardian of the sea,” the creature said. “Your ancestors made an ancient promise to protect Saint Lucia from the Shadow King, who sleeps beneath the mountains. But the time has come for him to awaken.”

Amara trembled.

“Why me?”

Nerissa smiled.

“Because the magic of your ancestors lives within your heart.”

She touched Amara’s forehead, and suddenly the maiden saw visions of Saint Lucia covered in darkness.
