Directions

You start with a blank map. Double-click on the map to create a circle of 50 miles radius centered on that location. All US cities within 50 miles of that circle will appear and count toward your total cities. The object is to cover as many cities as possible in 50 circles. You can click within an already-created circle as well, however you may have to zoom in slightly so you aren’t clicking on an existing city marker.

US 50K+ City Name Link Challenge

The object of this quiz is to pick a 50K+ US city to start, then name successive 50K+ cities such that the next city's first letter is the last letter of the current city and the next city is as close to the current city as possible. You must name cities in the format 'City, State' with the state abbreviation following the city.

For example, you start with 'Chicago, IL' - you are now trying to name a city starting with 'O' (the last letter of 'Chicago') which is closest to Chicago. If you answer 'Omaha, NE' - now you are trying to name the closest city to Omaha which starts with a 'A' and so on.

The quiz ends at the 25th city from the starting one. You get 100 points for naming the closest city on each step, and they decline based on the distance your city was from the closest. You get 15 minutes to complete the quiz.

US City Grid Blackout Largest City Challenge

Type 'easy' or 'hard' to begin the quiz. Easy is a 5-degree grid, hard is a 2.5-degree grid. Then, try to name the LARGEST city in each grid square which fits the category label for each square. To name a city, you must first click on the grid square to make it have a GREEN border. Then, type in the city answer for that square followed by a '.' (a period). You are given a score from 0 to 100 based on your answer's population compared to the largest city accepted in that square (100 being you named the largest city).

LETTER: means the city starts with that letter.
NUMBER RANGE: (such as 2-5, 10+) means the city contains that many letters (excluding spaces and special characters).
POPULATION RANGE: (such as 50-100K) means the city has that range for its population.
2+ WORDS means the city name has 2 or more words (words denoted by a space or hyphen).

AK and HI are NOT included in this quiz as they often have grid squares with only one answer for this quiz.

At the end of the quiz the largest population missed answer will show in each unanswered square, and for those answered the largest city will be listed if you didn't answer it.

US Circle Population Selection Challenge

The object of this quiz is to click on the circle containing the largest population. When you begin you'll be shown 2 circles on the map with radii between 10 and 250 miles which do not intersect. Click on the one with the larger population within it (based on US census tract info) then 'Submit' - if you are correct you'll move on. One incorrect round and the quiz is over. Every 5 rounds the number of circles on the map will increase by 1. Try to build the longest streak of correct circles. Circles displayed will always be non-intersecting.

NOTE: You may have to zoom out to see all circles, occasionally a AK/HI circle will be included. Also, only population within the US is included in the total, any Canada/Mexico coverage counts as 0 population within the circle.

How is this data being sorted? It’s weird to click on the DC/NoVA area and get almost half as many hits as northern Vermont/NH. Would be nice if it could be sorted to only 10k+ cities like in other quizzes.

yeah this one is all places, so larger cities don’t count any more than a smaller one does.

Any chance we could get a version more along the lines of the 50k 500km circle world version? That’s my favorite quiz of all time and I’d love to get a proper US version (:
