5-Letter Word Scramble Daily Challenge
DirectionsEach day at midnight US Central Time, you’ll get a new set of 5 unique letters. Your goal is to form as many valid words as possible (from the official Scrabble word list) using only those letters. You don’t need to use all the letters, but no others are allowed.
Example (letters: abelp): valid words include peal, babble, bell, etc.
Longer words (8+ letters) earn time bonuses. Points are awarded by word length:
- 1-letter: 1 pt
- 2-letter: 2 pts
- 3-letter: 3 pts
- 4-letter: 4 pts
- 5-letter: 5 pts
- 6-letter: 7 pts
- 7-letter: 9 pts
- 8-letter: 12 pts
- 9-letter: 16 pts
- 10-letter: 20 pts
- 11-letter: 30 pts
- 12-letter: 40 pts
- 13-letter: 50 pts
The leaderboard resets daily at midnight. Before starting, you can play a previous day’s quiz by clicking on ‘Play A Previous Date’ and choosing an available date (in red) from the calendar.

Quiz Takers
Yampants/Loves-Poetry, points well taken. That said, any score posted by itsmeguesswho should be considered highly suspect. They unquestionably cheat when playing the daily filmography quiz. And now, out of nowhere, they seemingly would have us believe that they have an extensive vocabulary.
If someone’s idea of fun is copy-pasting words from a list every day to pretend to seem smart, they’re free to do that I guess. I think most people who do this regularly would find that a little boring though. Also, is it so unlikely that on a site where some people know every 1M+ city in the world, some people would be good at word games?
I think you’re taking this far too seriously for a quiz that has a single day leaderboard with no physical prize at stake
Ok, well everyone disregard the 1181 score from CoolBeans. Their first and true score was in the 900s, and it was posted about 30 minutes after today’s quiz became available.
Its never going to be perfect. Leaderboards should always be taken with a grain of salt. We’ve always been able to go back and try quizzes again. Maybe if there was an option to see the leaderboard for first attempts only that could be fun. But there is nothing stopping people from starting the quiz, using AI to get a word list and getting near perfect scores. It’s annoying but it happens sometimes. Leaderboards naturally lead to competition. That means you’ll get cheaters, people who do quizzes multiple times (not breaking any rules) and people who accuse people of cheating because they don’t understand how they couldn’t beat them. There’s no prize for being first and there shouldn’t be.
Also, seeing previous high scores gives you an advantage. There have been many days where I think that I’ve exhausted my word knowledge and I see that I’m 300 pts short of the top score and I know that I’m missing something so I dig in and find more. There are also times where I get interrupted in the middle of a quiz and want to replay it. There is almost no benefit from finishing one these quizzes, you don’t get to see a word list and its almost just as difficult to take it again and remember to type all the words you originally got. I have a hard time typing all the EST words when that combo comes up very often because they all blur together.
Sorry about the rant.
You’re taking it waaay too seriously, I don’t have much else to add to what Yampants has already said.
Some of us are replaying these quizzes to get better scores. Maybe it’s just me, but replaying cheapens things.
All quizzes get replayed. A lot of them are designed to never be completed, so you can always try to get a higher score
almost as if this feature exists for a reason! wow!
i hope everyone in the comments gets as happy as i do when i see repeat players every day 🙂
Great addition, since english is not my main language its also nice and tricky. Could there be a way to see the x longest words (atleast all 10+) to see where the hidden gems are?
Because the quiz is replayable I’m not going to give any answers at the end for now.
Maybe something could be added at some point to see last days answer (also maybe most given answers for example). Thanks again though! like the new games!
love this addition!
It would be great to see past leaderboards for this
I’ve just added this feature to play previous dates.
