Africa 50 Km Expanding Circles Challenge – Choose City

First choose any Africa 50K+ city by entering it and choosing it in the drop-down box. Then, name the largest 50K+ Africa city in each 50km circle/ring as the rings expand outward from your city of choice. The first circle will include your city of choice as a possible answer if it is the largest 50K+ city in that area.

When you run out of time or end the quiz, you will see the current ring's correct answer at right (under 'Answer Stats' by your coordinates).

For example, if you choose 'Lagos, Nigeria' - you will be shown a circle of radius 50km centered at Lagos. Naming the largest city in this circle (Lagos in this case) will cause another 'ring' of radius 50km to appear outside that circle. You now need to name the largest 50K+ African city in that ring (but not within any previous circles/rings). If a city is not within the next ring of that distance, the ring will keep expanding by that distance until a city falls within it. So if a city doesn't fall within 50-100km, it will expand to be a 50-150km ring, then 50-200km and so on until a qualifying city is found within the ring.

Africa 50K+ City Name Link Challenge

The object of this quiz is to pick a 50K+ African city to start, then name successive 50K+ African cities such that the next city's first letter is the last letter of the current city and the next city is as close to the current city as possible. On this quiz alternates are generally accepted, however only the main (usually official) name is counted as it relates to naming the next city. Cities of the same name will answer the closest city first. NOTE: You must type a '.' (period) after the city to submit it. Cities must be a minimum of 50k population. The same city cannot be used twice in this quiz.

For example, you start with 'Cairo' - you are now trying to name a city starting with 'O' (the last letter of 'Cairo') which is closest to Cairo. If you answer 'Oran.' - now you are trying to name the closest city to Oran which starts with a 'N' and so on.

The quiz ends at the 25th city from the starting one. You get 100 points for naming the closest city on each step, and they decline based on the distance your city was from the closest. You get 15 minutes to complete the quiz.

Type an African country which has a land border with another African country (there are 48 such countries). When entered, that country and any bordering African countries will fill in. Try to fill in all 48 countries in as few guesses as possible. NOTE: for Guinea and Niger, type a '.' after them to submit (to avoid answering Guinea Bissau or Nigeria with an extra guess if you didn't want to answer those). Africa Capitals Triplets Blackout Challenge

Upon clicking START you will be presented with a 5×5 grid of 25 of the capital cities of African countries.

The object of this quiz is to choose the top 3 in the given category for the capitals shown in the grid. When you begin you’ll be given 25 different capitals plus a category to name the top 3 in, which will display just above the grid. For example, if the category says ‘Top 3 Largest Population’ you are to click on the 3 capitals with the largest population. If it says ‘Top 3 Lowest Population Density’ you are to click on the 3 whose population density is the lowest. You can deselect the first or second capital you chose on by re-clicking it, but when you choose the 3rd capital they will be submitted, removed from the grid, and you will get a score from 0-100 based on how close your set of 3 comes to the optimum set of 3 (which will be shown as a ‘Rank’ on top out of the # of possible sets of 3 for the last choice). When you’ve answered all 8 sets of 3 leaving only 1 capital the quiz is over. You get a 100 points bonus for completing the sets making for a total possible score of 2500.

Note: I set the Vatican's Cost Of Living to the same as Rome's, as there is no data for it.

Africa Cities Locator Streak Challenge

The object of this quiz is to locate as many of the top African cities in a row you can without going over the maximum allowable distance away. The max distance allowed is 25 km for 1M+ cities and 10 km otherwise. Double-click to locate each city in order of population. If you are under the max distance allowed you will move on to the next city. When you double-click farther away than the max distance allowed the quiz will end.

PLEASE NOTE - To identify a city, click on the 'downtown' area to avoid clicking on a suburb or outer edge of the city. The distance will generally be measured from close to the center of a city's 'downtown.'

Africa City Grid Challenge

Choose a number of cities by typing '3', '5', or '10'. Then, enter the largest number of 50K+ population cities you chose in each 10-degree grid square. Only green squares contain answers. When you have 2 left to go in a square it will fill in faintly yellow, 1 left it will be orangish, and all done it turns red. A time bonus is given for completing a square (it is greater for higher levels).

Africa Country Drawing Challenge

Time for you to show what you've really got. You'll be freehand drawing countries of Africa. When the quiz loads on the right side you will be told which country to draw. To begin drawing a country, click Draw or right-click anywhere in the map to enter drawing mode. Click and drag the mouse to make an outline of the country. Release the mouse to 'close' the country and it will appear green. If happy and ready to submit, click submit or double-click the drawn country. Click erase or right-click the country to erase it and try again. You may have to wait a few moments for your score to calculate on larger countries.

You are only drawing the main portion of each country - do not worry about any disjointed islands, etc. Cape Verde, Comoros, Madagascar, Mauritius, Seychelles and Sao Tome are not included.

When you submit a country you are scored on the % of your country which contains the actual country (shown as '% In Country') and the % of the actual country contained in your country (shown as '% Of Country'). These average out to create your points for that country.

Africa Country Drawing Challenge Streak

First enter ‘beg’, ‘int’, ‘adv’, or ‘exp’ to begin. Beginner corresponds to 60 points, intermediate to 70 points, advanced to 80 points and expert to 90 points. This is the number of points you will need to score drawing each country to get to continue on to the next country. The object is to complete as many countries as you can.

After typing ‘start’ to begin you will be given Google satellite view zoomed in near the center of 20 different African 50K+ population cities. The view will start being zoomed in fully and zoom out every 5 seconds. Name the country you are in by typing it (some abbreviations accepted). The faster you answer, the more points you get. Max of 25 points per location. NOTE: No country will be used more than once, you will get 20 different countries.
