Italy 10 Km Expanding Circles Challenge – Choose City

First choose any Italian city by entering it and choosing it in the drop-down box. Then, name the largest Italian city in each 10 km circle/ring as the rings expand outward from your city of choice. The first circle will include your city of choice as a possible answer if it is the largest city in that area.

When you run out of time or end the quiz, you will see the current ring's correct answer at right (under 'Answer Stats' by your coordinates).

For example, if you choose 'Leeds' - you will be shown a circle of radius 10 km centered at Leeds. Naming the largest city in this circle (Leeds in this case) will cause another 'ring' of radius 10 km to appear outside that circle. You now need to name the largest Italy city in that ring (but not within any previous circles/rings). If a city is not within the next ring of that distance, the ring will keep expanding by that distance until a city falls within it. So if a city doesn't fall within 10-20 km, it will expand to be a 10-30 km ring, then 10-40 km and so on until a qualifying city is found within the ring.

Upon clicking START you will see cities listed one at a time in the upper right on the side of the map. Double-click where that city is as fast and accurately as possible. You will then get a score of 0-100 based on those 3 factors. Also, up to 10 of the closest cities to the target city that you weren't within will be displayed. Click NEXT CITY to continue on.

Italy 10K+ City Name Link Challenge

The object of this quiz is to pick a 10K+ city to start, then name successive Italian 10K+ cities such that the next city's first letter is the last letter of the current city and the next city is as close to the current city as possible. You MUST enter a '.' (period) at the end of the city name to submit it.

For example, you start with 'Milan' - you are now trying to name a 10K+ city starting with 'N' (the last letter of 'Milan') which is closest to Milan. If you answer 'Naples.' - now you are trying to name the closest city to Naples which starts with a 'S' and so on.

The quiz ends at the 25th city from the starting one. You get 100 points for naming the closest city on each step, and they decline based on the distance your city was from the closest. You get 15 minutes to complete the quiz.

Italy 25 Km Expanding Circles Any City Distance Challenge – Choose City

First choose any Italy city by entering it and choosing it in the drop-down box. Then, name any Italy city in each 25 km circle/ring as the rings expand outward from your city of choice - NOTE - you must enter a period '.' at the end of the city to submit it. The first circle will include your city of choice as guessed. The object in this quiz is to guess the city in the next ring which is as close to the previous city as possible. The closest city will get you 100 points, the farthest away answer, 0 points.

When you run out of time or end the quiz, you will see the current ring's closest correct answer at right.

For example, if you choose ‘Rome’ – you will be shown a circle of radius 25 km centered at Rome and Rome will be selected. You will also see a ring of radius 25 km outside that circle. Naming a city in this ring will cause another ‘ring’ of radius 25 km to appear outside that ring and you will get 0-100 points, depending how close to Rome your city was. If a city is not within the next ring of that distance, the ring will keep expanding by that distance until a city falls within it. So if a city doesn’t fall within 25-50 kms, it will expand to be a 25-75 km ring, then 25-100 km and so on until a qualifying city is found within the ring.

Italy Grid Head To Head City Capture

This quiz is only available in Head-To-Head mode.

First, choose a difficulty by typing ‘beg’, ‘int’, ‘adv, or ‘exp’ – Beginner is 2 degrees, Intermediate 1 degree, Advanced 0.5 degrees, and Expert 0.25 degrees. Then, take turns entering the largest Italian city in each grid square of the size based on your difficulty. Green squares contain answers. There will be a white (Player 1) and a black (Player 2) competitor - when you answer a square it will fill in with your color.

When you have a square with your color surrounded in all directions (north, south, east, west - whichever are available) by other squares also of your color, it becomes 'captured' and the city in that surrounded square has its population added to your score.

The player with the highest score at the end of the quiz wins.

So for example in this World quiz, Black has scored on Chicago (circled) and Anchorage, and white has scored on Madrid (circled) and Reykjavik.

Italy Grid Path Challenge – All Cities

Choose a level by typing ‘beg’, ‘int’, ‘adv’, or ‘exp’ – beg level is 2 degree squares, int 1 degrees, adv 0.5 degree, and exp 0.25 degrees. Then, name any Italy city to start with by entering it (cities with the same name will choose the largest city of that name first). The grid square you are starting in will turn yellow - you now must name any city in any one of the adjacent grid squares (not including diagonal) - so any grid square directly north, south, east or west of the yellow one. Naming a city in one of these squares will turn your original square red and the current newly named city square yellow - continue in the same way trying to make a path of as many squares as you can. You are not allowed to return to a red square, and if you get 'boxed in' with no squares left to complete the quiz will also end.

Be aware that as you name cities it will answer the largest city first, so if you are trying to answer a city in a square to the east but a larger city of that name occurs a square to the north, the north one will be answered.

Obviously, due to the layout and separation of squares it will be impossible to complete all of them.

hugequiz Premium members will see the largest missed city in each possible next square at the end of the quiz as purple markers.

Italy Grid Top 5 Challenge

Type 'easy' or 'hard' to begin the quiz. Easy is a 2-degree grid, hard is a 1-degree grid. Then, try to name the largest Italian cities in each square IN ORDER. To name a city, you must first click on the grid square to make it have a GREEN border. Then, type in the city answer for that square followed by a '.' (a period).

The squares will start with '0/5' (or maybe fewer cities if less exist in that square). Click on a square and enter the largest city in that square not yet answered (so, the largest city if you have yet to answer a city in that square). You will then have '1/5' and need to click on that square to name the 2nd largest city, and so on until you complete all the cities up to 5 (or less if less exist). If you name an incorrect city in a square it becomes 'locked' and turns red and you can no longer accumulate cities in that square.

You receive 1 point for the largest city in a square, 2 for the 2nd largest, and so on.

At the end of the quiz the largest remaining city you haven't named will be shown in each square.

You are only drawing the main portion of each region - do not worry about any disjointed islands, etc. Sardinia and Sicily are not included as they are simply islands to trace.

When you submit a region you are scored on the % of your region which contains the actual region (shown as '% In Region') and the % of the actual region contained in your region (shown as '% Of Region'). These average out to create your points for that region.
