Challenge The King #1 – US Largest Cities
DirectionsCan you beat Geography King? The King himself takes this quiz one time and your job is to beat his score! You will be taking the exact same quiz with the same locations and population targets.
Your goal is to adjust each circle so it contains the target population shown on the right. When you click START, you’ll be placed at a location with a marker and a circle set to a 100-mile radius – locations for this quiz are the centers of the 10 largest US cities. Drag the circle to resize it until you think it contains the target number of people, then click SUBMIT. Your score is based on how close your circle’s population is to the target. Population is calculated by totaling all U.S. census tracts (small census areas averaging about 4,000 people) that fall within your circle. After each round, you’ll see Geography King’s circle and score for comparison. You won’t see the final leaderboard until after the quiz is completed as well, unless you have already played in which case it will show after clicking START.
⚠️ Important: Once you click START, you only get one official attempt. Any future plays will still work for practice, but your score will not be saved. You CANNOT start the quiz, go through the rounds to see the locations and population targets, then restart to actually play it – once you click START you must complete that quiz for your score to save.
SCORING NOTE: Only U.S. population is counted. Population in Canada and Mexico is not included, even if it falls inside the circle.

The King is no joke!
Who’s the King, who’s the king, who’s the king, woooah
countyguy second edition apparently…
What a fun challenge 😀
I can’t believe I got third! (957 pts)
P.S. Knowing your county populations help.
I almost had him if not for drawing my DFW circle too small.
I love his channel on Youtube!
Noooo Geography King got me by 0.1 lol
I was very lucky… as a “county guy” I have a good idea the populations of the most populous counties so had a good sense. On the final city, knowing that I would win the challenge as long as I was reasonably close, I was less than the population of a census tract away from the actual population and got 100.0, which at that level is pure luck.
Got 857 so just barely beat the polish/british guy
Wow i got crushed
dang clicked start while i was at work and closed out without reading the description hahah
I tried to copy his answers and still lost… lol… serves me right
Good stuff (Florida got me though)!
854 – ok for a Polish / British guy but I botched 2 (75, 68). Got one 99.0 though ;). The problem I have is that in terms of population I’m fairly familiar with city and state sizes but with metro areas or even farther out a little less so especially when it comes to smaller cities and their respective metros. Never mind them countless rural and small town counties.
