Challenge The King #3 – 10M+ Population
DirectionsCan you beat Geography King? The King himself takes this quiz one time and your job is to beat his score! You will be taking the exact same quiz with the same locations and population targets.
Your goal is to adjust each circle so it contains the target population shown on the right. When you click START, you’ll be placed at a location with a marker and a circle set to a 100-mile radius – locations for this quiz have 10M+ population targets. Drag the circle to resize it until you think it contains the target number of people, then click SUBMIT. Your score is based on how close your circle’s population is to the target. Population is calculated by totaling all U.S. census tracts (small census areas averaging about 4,000 people) that fall within your circle. After each round, you’ll see Geography King’s circle and score for comparison. You won’t see the final leaderboard until after the quiz is completed as well, unless you have already played in which case it will show after clicking START.
⚠️ Important: Once you click START, you only get one official attempt. Any future plays will still work for practice, but your score will not be saved. You CANNOT start the quiz, go through the rounds to see the locations and population targets, then restart to actually play it – once you click START you must complete that quiz for your score to save.
SCORING NOTE: Only U.S. population is counted. Population in Canada and Mexico is not included, even if it falls inside the circle.

Quiz Takers
Gaging rural populations by region proved to be difficult for me.
Much more difficult than I expected with the bigger numbers. I’d like to see a quiz here that combines the “population in a radius” with the “cover the map” formats where you try to cover as many people in the country as possible.
That’s a good idea, perhaps you get a certain number of circles of 100 miles, then place them to cover as many people as possible.
