Can’t get further north. Started in Oslo, stuck in Norway, Sweden and Russia (Lillehammer, Umeå, got as far east as Galich in russia). No cities further north or into Finland

would be cool to have 500 and 200 km versions of this

I came down here to say the same. We non-Jake-Lyons-tier people are going to get stuck quite a bit. I end up cheating for educational purposes, but I’d also like to test myself at 200 and 500.

Another idea is “nearest N cities” for maybe 50 and 100 if the population threshold is 10k. That way the sparser countries aren’t so likely to be traps. But I do like the distance-based ones too — learning about isolated towns is kind of fun.

This is a fun one, though a smarter person than me could definitely use some more time to get a better score. My own attempt was running very dry at the 30 minute mark, as I could’t figure out any more cities to help me push further into the Iberian pensinsula, down into the tip of Italy and over to Sicily, up into Sweden, or along a line stretching from northwest Poland to Odessa

There’s also a tantalizing little town that looks like it’s the only one that can cross the GB – Ireland distance! Very useful for this very specific scenario haha

It’s called Stranraer which you aren’t going to get without having been there. At least Belfast is available from there.

FWIW I got there with Caerphilly. I didn’t even know where in Wales it was, just a Welsh name that I pulled out of the recesses of my memory.

I think I heard of Stranraer from some BBC World Service classified [association] football results.

Oops. Apparently I was wrong about Caerphilly. The downside of a flurry of guesses is that you might not learn which one worked! 🙂

What makes this easier than the other one?

I’m with Jake — I’d prefer to call this the standard one and the elimination one expert mode or something. The other one isn’t going to be much fun as I last about 3 guesses.
