MLB Batters Triple Blackout

Directions

The object of this game is to fill all 25 squares in the grid by naming 3 players who meet the qualifications listed across the top for the teams shown in the cells. You MUST enter full player names, last names won’t cut it (makes it a bit too easy). This quiz only uses players with at least one hit for each franchise.

Stats along the top are only FOR THAT TEAM and FOR THE PLAYER’S CAREER (i.e. not an individual season, that player’s entire career with that team). So if the top line has ’50-99 HR’ and the cell shows the Yankees you are looking for players who had 50-99 HR for the Yankees during their entire time with the Yankees. Positions such as ‘1B’ and ‘Catcher’ refer to players who played that defensive position the most among all the positions they may have played.

Teams and stats are randomized each time quiz is loaded. Occasionally a cell may not have any qualifying answer, in which case it will be filled in bright green and be a gimme. Cells with two answers left will have a very dark green background, those with one answer left more of an evergreen shade, and finally bright green for those which have been completed. Some cells with only 1 or 2 valid answers will start with a green shade corresponding to how many answers are left.

hugequiz Premium members will see missed answers in red. Missed answers will be the player with the most hits for that team who qualifies for that cell – only one miss will be shown per cell.

Bill Doran also appears for the Cleveland Guardians, but should not.

There are a few random names who fit categories that don’t work for reasons I can’t figure out — Nigel Wilson and Jeff Francoeur are the ones I’ve consistently been unable to get accepted.

Most recent year of 1990-1999 (assumed 1999) had a lot of answer that shouldn’t have been right. Mookie Betts for Red Sox being probably the craziest. Carlos Beltran/Mets and Chipper Jones/Braves a couple others.

Oh gotcha. That seems like a really wide and too easy category then.
