US Closest Capital Challenge

Directions

First type ‘start’ to begin. Then you will be given a US state capital. Try to name the closest other state capital to the given capital. Only the 5 closest capitals will be accepted as an answer. You can type ‘next’ to skip the current capital. Getting the closest capital will yield 100 points. 2nd thru 5th closest will give a lower point total, based both on the rank of the capital (2nd thru 5th, minus 10 points for each ranking below first) and how much farther the guessed capital is away than the closest capital. 10 total capitals and 3 minutes total time, 20 seconds maximum per capital.

US 2nd Largest City Grid Challenge – Choose State

First choose a state and difficulty by entering the state abbreviation followed by a 1 or 2 - i.e. 'CA2'. Level 1 is easier with 1-degrees squares, level 2 is 0.5-degree squares. Then, click on a square to choose it and enter the SECOND largest city in each grid square of the size based on your difficulty - answers MUST BE named by typing the city name followed by a period. Only green squares contain answers - others may not have a corresponding place (i.e. no places, all unincorporated).

US City Grid 3rd Largest City Challenge

Type 'easy' or 'hard' to begin the quiz. Easy is a 5-degree grid, hard is a 2.5-degree grid. Then, try to name the THIRD LARGEST city in each grid square. To name a city, you must first click on the grid square to make it have a GREEN border. Then, type in the city answer for that square followed by a '.' (a period). You are given a score from 0 to 100 based on your answer's population compared to the 3rd largest city accepted in that square (100 being you named the 3rd largest city). If you guess the largest city it will be based on the ratio of the 3rd largest city's population to the largest.

AK and HI are NOT included in this quiz as they often have grid squares with only one answer for this quiz.

At the end of the quiz the 3rd largest city will show in each unanswered square, and for those answered the 3rd largest city will be listed next to your score if you didn't answer it.

US States Max Elevation Sorting Challenge

You begin with two US states shown in the grid. Upon starting, your job is to sort the states in order from largest to smallest by max elevation (so states with the highest max elevation first). The order is represented by the '1st' thru '16th' in each box. You can click on a state to move it to a higher position in the list - simply click once and it will turn red, then clicked another higher-ranked state to position the first state before it. Click submit to check your answers...if they are in order you will get a new state added to the end which needs to be positioned correctly, and so on until you either get one wrong or complete all 15 levels.
