First choose any US city by entering it and choosing it in the drop-down box. Then, name any US city in each 100 mile circle/ring as the rings expand outward from your city of choice, trying to name SECOND LARGEST city in each circle. The first circle will include your city of choice as a possible answer.
PLEASE NOTE - You must type a '.' (period) after each city to submit it to prevent answering another city with a name you would be have to type to get your answer. If multiple cities have the name you submitted, only the largest one will be counted.
You accumulate points based on the population of the city you named in relation to the second largest city in the circle. A smaller city’s point total will be the ratio of its population to the largest, so if you name a city of 75K people and the largest city has 100K, you get 75 points. Naming the largest city will get you points based on the ratio of the 2nd largest city's population to the largest city's.
When you run out of time or end the quiz, you will see the current ring’s 2nd largest city at right (under ‘Answer Stats’ by your coordinates).
For example, if you choose ‘Chicago’ – you will be shown a circle of radius 100 miles centered at Chicago. Naming any city in this circle (including Chicago) will cause another ‘ring’ of radius 100 miles to appear outside that circle, however - you will want to try naming the SECOND LARGEST city you can to get more points. After completing that circle, you now need to name any US city in the new ring (but not within any previous circles/rings), again trying to name the 2nd largest city. If there are not two cities within the next ring of that distance, the ring will keep expanding by that distance until two cities fall within it.
I noticed that for the California county quiz that San Francisco County is only represented by the Farallon Islands; the mainland part on the peninsula is not shown in the outline.
After a while I am unable to move any of the counties, even when they are not locked in place. What is going on? Is it a glitch? Is there any way to fix this?
Yeah I’ve tried to fix this and think it’s some sort of glitch that occasionally occurs, unfortunately there’s no error message or anything I can work with and so no luck so far finding a solution 🙁
Just a tip for everyone here, to prevent this from happening, move all the counties in place without locking any of them down, as the glitch does happen until at least one is locked down. Then double click on all of them. If the glitch happens now, you can still double-click on them. This is how I was able to get a perfect score on Georgia’s 159 counties.
Also, I completed Georgia with locking everything down. Try not to drag green counties over or on top of red ones or else you’ll confuse to program into thinking the green ones are red.
Is anyone else having issues getting the green counties to show up at all? I’m not sure what changed between now and a few days ago when I played I tried reloading a few times tried a few different states after reloading, none of them showed the green counties for me to move around I then cleared my cache logged back in and I’m still seeing this issue I’m on chrome, is there a way to attach a screen shot of my inspector so you can see what you might need from my end?
Hmm I just tried a few states and the counties showed up fine.
LOL imagine trying Iowa. You gotta memorize the names and exact order.
you should make one for world countries

I can only finish one state and then it wont let me do anymore for some reason
You mean one county? What browser are you using?
I just tested it and there are 133 shapes…maybe you missed a tiny one somewhere? VA does have small cities which are themselves counties.
I’ve tried Ohio 3 times and each time, about halfway through, the green counties have become unable to drag, rendering me unable to finish the quiz. Not sure if this is a fixable issue or just my computer being weird
yeah I’m aware of this issue affecting some people – I’m trying a few different fixes. try reloading the quiz after clearing your cache so you are using the most recent version of the quiz. can’t promise it’s fixed – i think it’s actually a Google Maps bug.
You can move all the counties freely if you wait to lock them once they’re all in place. I just completed Georgia and its 159 counties this way.
I completed Georgia that way too! Thanks!
