World 1M City Coverage Challenge
DirectionsEnter a World 1M+ city – all other 1M+ cities within 1000km will also fill in. Try to fill in all 1M cities in the smallest number of circles. Countries remaining will display when you have completed 80 countries. For Khartoum, enter ‘khartoum.’ with the period to prevent entering Khartoum North. For Hyderabad, there are two, so enter ‘hyderabadin’ for India and ‘hyderabadpa’ for Pakistan. Also there are 2 ‘Taizhou’ cities in China. To name the southernmost (slightly larger) one, type ‘taizhou1’ – for the other type ‘taizhou2’.

Is a score of 50 still possible with the more recent cities added? There seems to be one city added recently that is a totally isolated circle
Hey mate, out of curiosity:
Obviously, with the mercator projection, circles all the way up in the north are bigger, I get that. But shouldn’t they another form as well, instead of perfectly round? Right now, I don’t think it perfectly depicts 1000km in each direction.

they aren’t perfectly round anywhere really. they get more egg-shaped near the poles. if you play a World Coverage with all cities at beginner level you will see it much more easily with even more northern cities.

I spent hours trying to hit 50 .. can only seem to hit 51 .. it’s bugging me what changes I should make
Khartoum doesn’t create a circle,only Omdurman seems to work
per directions you need a ‘.’ at the end of it

yeah it’s fixed now.
I’ve put the newest data in this quiz so many more 1M+ cities – I’ve reset the scores as a result as the # of circles will change.
Hi! None of the cities in South Africa are working for me. Is that a bug?
no, I think only Soweto as a place has 1m+ in its city proper. Cape Town, Johannesburg etc are large metro areas but contain lots of localities and therefore their city proper population is a little under 1M.
