IMDB Most Popular Movies With Cities In The Title
DirectionsName the 100 most popular movies in terms of IMDB votes which have city names in the title. Cities must be real (past or present) actual city/town names, not areas/neighborhoods/districts within larger places (such as Bronx or Hollywood). City must be a real city or if mythical based on a real city. Titles are included if the name of the place in the title is based on the city where it is located (such as a college).
What about To Live and Die in LA https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0090180/ ?
I’ll add
Der Himmel über Berlin (Wings of Desire) is missing
Lost City of Z likely isn’t real, so shouldn’t count. Synecdoche, New York — the “New York” refers to the state, not the city, so again probably shouldn’t count.
A few that are missing:
The Taking of Pelham 123 (2009)
Pleasantville (1998)
Sleepy Hollow (1999)
[Pelham, Pleasantville, and Sleepy Hollow are all real towns in Westchester, NY….I just happen to be from there]
Detroit (2017)
adding these – Detroit (2017) just didn’t make the vote cut.
Hi again! I took the time to scrape this one too.
First, there are two that I think need to be taken off:
Three Billboards Outside of Ebbing, Missouri (2017) – [Ebbing is a made up town]
Pleasantville (1998) – [I know, I know, I was the one who said to put it on, but I reread your criteria, and while the movie shares a name with a town, it’s not based on any of the real Pleasantvilles]
And I found six that were missed:
Chungking Express (1994)
Paterson (2016) – [The main character’s name in this is Paterson, but it also takes place in Paterson, NJ]
Gomorrah (2008) – [The title is a play on the crime family’s name, but also a reference to the town of Gomorrah from the bible]
Beverly Hills Ninja (1997)
The Amityville Horror (1979) – [You have the remake on there, but not this one]
The Stanford Prison Experiment (2015) – [Since the school shares a name with its town]
will fix – thanks!
Movies that probably didn’t make the minimum vote cut that I liked watching while growing up:
The Fish that Saved Pittsburgh
Doctor Detroit
D.C. Cab
Pittsburgh (great bar fight scene between Randolph Scott and John Wayne over Marlene Dietrich)
Philadelphia Experiment
Kansas City Bomber (Raquel Welch playing roller derby….that should have more votes!)
and the one that probably got jobbed the most…..
The Harlem Globetrotters on Gilligan’s Island
Harsh that Doctor Detroit doesn’t make the cut. Stone cold classic
What about Batman, Batman Returns, Batman Forever, etc (Batman, Turkey)?
Does Selma count?
adding.
if you think something is missing (and meets the min votes requirement to be in this list), let me know.
Would Roman Holiday count?
will add it.
