US 100K City Coverage Challenge

Directions

Enter a US 100K+ city – all other 100K+ cities within 100 miles will also fill in. Try to fill in all 100K cities in the smallest number of circles. NOTE – a few cities have the same name in different states, to enter these type in the city name followed by state abbreviation (i.e. ‘springfieldma’). For Jackson and Wichita you need to enter the name followed by a period, i.e. ‘jackson.’ to avoid answering these cities for Jacksonville and Wichita Falls. States remaining will display when you have completed 35 states.

hugequiz Premium members will see the 25 largest missed cities at the end of the quiz as large, purple markers.

Enter a 100K+ city to begin.

can this be updated with 2020 census data?

The 2020 census has 326 cities over 100k, adding 31 cities. But the interesting bit is, I think the 2020 solution has one less circle — with Erie, PA dropping below 100k you no longer need a deep overlap in either NE Ohio or Western NY to capture Erie in a 69 circle solution. (Macon, GA is within the required Athens, GA circle.)

That’s true that one circle can be removed because Erie, PA was removed, so you could get a solution with 1 less circle if all the other circles in the solution are the same. However if this quiz got updated with the same 2020 census data as the other quizzes on this site some of the cities have different coordinates so new circles are required to get Evansville, IN and Columbia, SC, resulting in 1 more circle in total

Is there any way you can shrink the size of the markers? They are blocking each other and my view of the circle boundaries.

“Wichita” is accepted without a period, preempting Wichita Falls.

You will always need Wichita so the quiz ends up making you a favour.

Thank goodness for that… given the limited time it was too hard to complete the quiz without it. But all I can see is the “state is completed!” message, not the proper list. Can I suggest markers a little bit smaller? They cover parts of the map where circles intersect… or not.
