US Cities Top 5 Blackout (Premium Only)
DirectionsFill in the 25 squares with the top five (in terms of population, or less if less than 5 qualify) US cities based on the categories in the top row and the geographical location given in the cell. For example, if you are looking at a cell with ‘CA’ in its row, and ‘2+ Words’ in the column, that cell can be filled in with ‘San Jose’ as San Jose is one of the 5 largest 2+ Words cities in CA. When a cell is completed it fills in bright green.
Northeast, South, Midwest and West divisions are per the US Census Bureau’s regions. West includes AK & HI.
Occasionally a cell may not have any qualifying answer, in which case it will be filled in bright green and be a gimme. Cells will get progressively greener until all 5 (or less if less than 5 qualify) are answered. Some cells with less than 5 valid answers will start with a green shade corresponding to how many answers are left.

I really don’t mean to be a nag, here. I am just noticing things that don’t make sense to me. Maybe there is something I am completely missing.
On the first column, the category is the top five biggest cities west of -100 longitude. The second column is the 6th-10th cities west of -100 longitude. So, basically, I’m listing the 10 biggest cities west of -100 longitude, insofar as I am aware.
The top five cities west of -100 longitude are-
1) Los Angeles, CA
2) Phoenix, AZ
3) San Diego, CA
4) San Jose, CA
5) San Francisco, CA
So far, so good. But now, here’s where I’m confused.
For the “6th-10th” category, some of the answers are-
Oakland, CA
Long Beach, CA
El Paso, TX
Bakersfield, CA
El Paso is the only one of those four that makes sense. If I’m naming the top 10 biggest cities west of -100 longitude, essentially, then, after the first five listed above, the list should continue as follows-
6) Seattle, WA
7) Denver, CO
8) El Paso, TX
9) Las Vegas, NV
10) Portland, OR
Again, I’m not trying to be a nag. I am just genuinely confused.
The 6th-10th, etc categories say ‘In State’ after them. So, for 100 W longitude it’s looking for cities that are BOTH 100 W or more AND the 6th-10th largest IN THEIR STATE. Hope that clarifies.
Category of “Starts with L” and the state was Georgia: it only listed LaGrange, but there’s also Lawrenceville, GA
Category of “6th-10th Largest City In State” and the region was Northeast- somehow, Jersey City, NJ and Buffalo, NY weren’t answers, but Edison, NJ was??? You’d think that Buffalo, NY and Jersey City, NJ would definitely count as part of the 6th-10th largest cities in the Northeast. But somehow Edison, NJ counts??? Heck, Providence, RI is bigger than that.
It needs to be 6th-10th in the state it’s in, not the entire NE.
Then, may I respectfully ask what the purpose is of the Northeast category?
It means only states in the NE count for that cell.
I get it that this is a really great challenge, but I do wish there was simply a “Quintuple Blackout” game kinda like the “Triple Blackout”.
Will consider adding 🙂
What is the minimum population for the cities? Tried a bunch of “starts with H” in Kansas that didn’t work just to see only two answers in the box.
Keep in mind it only accepts the five largest for each cell.
Colonial Heights and Manassas Park hit for 2+ words for VA but not for 10+ letters despite only having 4 cities in that category when i tried those cities
Cities may be in the top five for 2+ words but not in the top five for 10+ letters.
