World 50 Km Expanding Circles Any City Challenge – Choose City

Directions

First choose any World 50K+ city by entering it and choosing it in the drop-down box. Then, name ANY World 50K+ city in each 50km circle/ring as the rings expand outward from your city of choice. The first circle will include your city of choice as a possible answer.

When you run out of time or end the quiz, you will see the current ring’s largest correct answer at right (under ‘Answer Stats’ by your coordinates).

For example, if you choose ‘Paris, France’ – you will be shown a circle of radius 50km centered at Paris. Naming any 50K+ city in this circle (including Paris) will cause another ‘ring’ of radius 50km to appear outside that circle. You now need to name the any World 50K+ city in that ring (but not within any previous circles/rings). If a city is not within the next ring of that distance, the ring will keep expanding by that distance until a city falls within it. So if a city doesn’t fall within 50-100km, it will expand to be a 50-150km ring, then 50-200km and so on until a qualifying city is found within the ring.

World City Grid Blackout Largest City Challenge

Type 'easy' or 'hard' to begin the quiz. Easy is a 15-degree grid, hard is a 10-degree grid. Then, try to name the LARGEST city in each grid square which fits the category label for each square. To name a city, you must first click on the grid square to make it have a GREEN border. Then, type in the city answer for that square followed by a '.' (a period). You are given a score from 0 to 100 based on your answer's population compared to the largest city accepted in that square (100 being you named the largest city).

LETTER: means the city starts with that letter.

World Circle Population Selection Challenge

The object of this quiz is to click on the circle containing the largest population. When you begin you'll be shown 2 circles with radii between 100 and 2500 km on the map which do not intersect. Click on the one with the larger population within it (based world population density info) then 'Submit' - if you are correct you'll move on. One incorrect round and the quiz is over. Every 5 rounds the number of circles on the map will increase by 1. Try to build the longest streak of correct circles. Circles displayed will always be non-intersecting.

World Grid Population Challenge

First choose a grid size by typing '30', '20', or '10'. A grid of that size lat/long will be placed on the map (so if you choose '20' the grid width and height will be 20 degrees). Then, double click on the grid square with the highest population within it (based on world 10km x 10km population density estimates). The highest-population remaining square will give you 100 points, all the way down to 0 for the one with the smallest population. Try to obtain the most points by successively double-clicking on the highest-populated grid square.

Curious what the calculation for the radius/circumfrence of the earth is: do you use the “average” radius given the slightly ellipsoidal shape? The general number of 6371 km results in antipodal distance of 20015 km, however a >20050 km distance-circle does exist after all.

Also if anybody is wondering for the 401 city, focus on antipodal regions with decent density and no ocean gaps. I wonder if there is more 401 cities or one with 402.

Somehow the 100km quiz: World 100 Km Expanding Circles Any City Challenge – Choose City – hugequiz is not working for me anymore… It worked fine before, but for a few days now it won’t let me start (no drop down menu appears), won’t show me all high scores (only my own) and also won’t let me comment under it (there is no add comment box, but I can read the other comments)… I already tried clearing cache/ deleting cookies, trying it in another browser, in incognitio mode, etc. All other quizzes work fine… Any ideas?
