Name the 25 most common adjectives for each letter. Number of letters in each are shown. When you click START you will be shown a table of 25 words. The words on the left in green are 12 of the 100 most common English adjectives. The 13 words in blue on the right are among the 100 most common English nouns. The object is to pair the adjectives with the nouns to guess the most common adjective-noun 2-word pairs. Click on an adjective (green) word first, then a noun (blue word) to pair them up. You will get a score based on how common that word pair is among all possible pairs that can be made with words left on the board. 100 points is for the most common, 0 for the least. You can re-click on a chosen adjective to un-select it.

Please note - you are trying to find the most common word pair among all possible pairs on the board, NOT the most common pairing based on the adjective you chose first.

For example, the adjective 'federal' would have a very large number of pairs with the noun 'government' as 'federal government' is a very common two-word phrase in written English - however 'federal' would not be a good pairing with the noun 'water' as 'federal water' is an exceedingly rare word combination. Word pair commonality is based on total occurrences in the Google books corpus.

You have 5 minutes to complete the quiz and receive a 100 point bonus for completing 12 pairs (leaving one noun left) for a total of 2500 possible points.

Name the sets of English homophones - words which are spelled differently and have different meanings, but have the same pronouncation. Groups of homophones are sorted by the first word in each group alphabetically. Words then sorted within each group A-Z. Parts of speech such as plurals, past participles, gerunds, etc are not included if the root word is already listed UNLESS a third new word is a homophone in the group created by the other part of speech. Only sets of words in which each word is on the TWL06 word list (a widely-used Scrabble word list) are included, so in general proper nouns are not included. Group # shown along with number of words in that group.

Name the words which are in the most frequent 5000 English verbs which are also irregular (i.e. not a regular conjugation pattern). If verbs may have different meanings and some may be regular while one form is irregular, they will be in this quiz. Answer with the base infinitive form of the verb (i.e. what would come after 'to-'). # of letters, first letter (if over 3 letters), and overall rank among top 5000 verbs shown.

Double letter refers to the verb having any repeating letter, for example 'appear' or 'see.'

Letter rank refers to the rank of that verb among all verbs beginning with that letter.

For example, if the cell is 'A' and the column is '2-3 Letters' you can enter 'ask.'

Words must have been used as nouns (occasionally an animal word can be another part of speech). I do realize some of these can be nouns referring to something other than the animal, but I couldn't separate those out, so the overall usage as a noun is counted. Length of noun shown.

Name the most common verb pairs connected by the conjunction ‘or’ according to the COCA Corpus of Contemporary English. # of occurrences and first letters of each word shown. Words must be entered in the order they most commonly appear, you only need to enter the present verb form and any answers that are past or gerund will fill in.
