Begin by typing in any US city/town/etc in the format City, State – i.e. ‘Boston, MA’ – for a handful of places with the same name in the same state you will need to add a number corresponding to the population rank of that name in that state – i.e. ‘Madison, WI1’ for the largest of the two Madison, WI’s. That city will appear as a pink marker and the 250 closest cities/towns/etc to that city (not including the one you chose) will also appear. High scores are kept only for cities of 25K+ population. ‘Closest Cities’ on bottom left shows the top number of closest cities in a row you have completed (i.e. a ‘3’ if you have the 3 closest but not the 4th). Object is highest population among 250 closest, not total places.

US City Grid Blackout Largest City Challenge

Type 'easy' or 'hard' to begin the quiz. Easy is a 5-degree grid, hard is a 2.5-degree grid. Then, try to name the LARGEST city in each grid square which fits the category label for each square. To name a city, you must first click on the grid square to make it have a GREEN border. Then, type in the city answer for that square followed by a '.' (a period). You are given a score from 0 to 100 based on your answer's population compared to the largest city accepted in that square (100 being you named the largest city).

LETTER: means the city starts with that letter.
NUMBER RANGE: (such as 2-5, 10+) means the city contains that many letters (excluding spaces and special characters).
POPULATION RANGE: (such as 50-100K) means the city has that range for its population.
2+ WORDS means the city name has 2 or more words (words denoted by a space or hyphen).

At the end of the quiz the largest population missed answer will show in each unanswered square, and for those answered the largest city will be listed if you didn't answer it.

US Circle Population Selection Challenge

The object of this quiz is to click on the circle containing the largest population. When you begin you'll be shown 2 circles on the map with radii between 10 and 250 miles which do not intersect. Click on the one with the larger population within it (based on US census tract info) then 'Submit' - if you are correct you'll move on. One incorrect round and the quiz is over. Every 5 rounds the number of circles on the map will increase by 1. Try to build the longest streak of correct circles. Circles displayed will always be non-intersecting.

NOTE: You may have to zoom out to see all circles, occasionally a AK/HI circle will be included. Also, only population within the US is included in the total, any Canada/Mexico coverage counts as 0 population within the circle.

Canada Circle Radius Population Challenge

The object of this quiz is to adjust each circle's radius so it contains the target population shown at the right. When you click Start you will be shown a marker on a random Canada dissemination area (there are over 55K dissemination areas across Canada, the smallest census tabulation area). Also you will see an adjustable circle of radius 100 km to start. Adjust the circle's radius by dragging it until it contains the target number of people shown - this target will be between 10K and 5 million people. Then click submit. You are scored on how close your circle's population is to the target. Circle population is tallied by totaling all output areas within that circle.

I only missed Oldtown, ID and it says (oldtown%)

was it a city of under 25k? per the directions only cities of 25k+ have scores stored

I’ve discovered that on this 250-answer quiz, there is an error/glitch when you want to see “25 missed” or “25 hardest.” I can see these answers/results just fine on the 100-answer quiz and other quizzes, but not this one for some reason.
