The object of this quiz is to place 20 circles of radius 100 miles on the map so that they contain the largest total population.
When you begin you'll be given a 100-mile radius circle centered on the map. Move it using the mouse and click SUBMIT. You will be given a score for that circle corresponding to the total population among all US census tracts within it (there are about 85K total US census tracts averaging about 4K people each). Try to complete all 20 circles with the highest total score.
Any INTERSECTING areas are only counted one time, so no census tract will be counted more than once.
I’m trying to figure out the correct name for the Barren Island and Plumb Beach neighborhoods in Brooklyn (can’t seem to get those to fill in, any other names for those spots?)
Plumb Beach was spelled Plum Beach – fixing. not sure what the other is called in this quiz, sorry – can’t remember my source either.
Hi again, figured out it’s in there as Floyd Bennett Field (which is the name of the field in the center of the area). I think Barren Island would be a more appropriate listing for that neighborhood, if possible to change.
Actually, on further reading, it looks like Floyd Bennett is the name of the historic district, so that name is appropriate. Can probably be left as is.
by the way, what source did you use for this?
unfortunately I don’t remember the source for this one
My score makes it obvious I’m a west coast guy 😀
Darin, I hope you’re prepared for the ridiculous indignation and squabbling that this quiz is going to cause…
