RIAA Certified Artists 10×10 Blackout
DirectionsThe object of this game is to fill all 100 squares in the grid by naming artists who meet the qualifications listed across the top for the first certified album year shown in the cells. You MUST enter full artist names, last names won’t cut it (makes it a bit too easy). For this quiz, the year in the cell is the year of their FIRST album which became certified by the RIAA (so at least Gold), not necessarily their first ever album. Only artists with at least a Gold certification are included on this quiz.
PLEASE NOTE: There are a small percentage of artists not included as I couldn’t get the data for album dates from them all, this is mostly lesser selling artists.
For example, if the cell shows ‘1970s’ and the column is ’50+ Certs’ you can answer ‘ACDC.’ First couple words are accepted for longer artist names.
For the ‘Span’ categories (i.e. ’10-24 Year Span’) that is the time between their first and most recent certified album release dates. For ‘Starts With (Letter)’ that is the first letter of the artist name (excluding any leading ‘A’, ‘An’, or ‘The’ – so ‘The Beatles’ are under ‘B’) as listed by the RIAA website. For artists using full names this is the first letter of their FIRST name.
Year ranges and columns are randomized each time quiz is loaded. Occasionally a cell may not have a qualifying answer in which case it will appear blank and be a gimme.
hugequiz Premium members will see missed answers in red. Missed answers will be the artist with the most certifications who qualifies for that cell.
Have you ever considered making a version of the game that focuses on a decade of our choice? I’d definitely play obsessively..
Why is Harry Belafonte not included in pre-1960s ‘H’-artists? He had some gold albums in the 1950s
He was one of the few who didn’t have album years on the RIAA site, but I’ve added him now.
Nirvana shows up in the 1980s instead of the 1990s. Nevermind was released in 1991.
their first album, Bleach, was certified too…it was 1989
Why is The Offspring in the 2005-2009 range? They had multiplatinum albums in the 1990s… and
Pearl Jam is not showing up in the 25+ year span/1990s category while they released albums in 1991 and 2020.
Pearl Jam’s 2020 album isn’t certified yet. Fixed Offspring.
Hmm wouldn’t it be more logic to split the decades 70/80/90s into two as far more artist sold far more albums than in 2000s when pop music was dying anyway?
and pretty cool quiz
