Europe 100 Closest Cities – Choose Any City

Begin by typing in any European 10K+ population city in the format 'City, Country' - i.e. 'Brussels, Belgium'. NOTE: there are a handful of cities with the same name in a country, to select them type in a number after the city which is based on the population rank of the one you want. For example - to select the largest Frankfurt, Germany, type 'Frankfurt, Germany1'. That city will appear as a pink marker and the 100 closest 10K+ cities to that city (not including the one you chose) will also appear. High scores are kept only for cities of 25K+ population. 'Closest Cities' on bottom left shows the top number of closest cities in a row you have completed (i.e. a '3' if you have the 3 closest but not the 4th). Object is highest population among 100 closest, not total places.

Europe 100K+ City Name Link Challenge

The object of this quiz is to pick a Europe 100K+ city to start, then name successive 100K+ European cities such that the next city's first letter is the last letter of the current city and the next city is as close to the current city as possible. On this quiz alternates are generally accepted, however only the main (usually official) name is counted as it relates to naming the next city. Cities of the same name will answer the closest city first. NOTE: You must type a '.' (period) after the city to submit it. Cities must be a minimum of 100k population. The same city cannot be used twice in this quiz.

For example, you start with 'Paris' - you are now trying to name a city starting with 'S' (the last letter of 'Paris') which is closest to Paris. If you answer 'Strasbourg' - now you are trying to name the closest city to Strasbourg which starts with a 'G' and so on.

The quiz ends at the 25th city from the starting one. You get 100 points for naming the closest city on each step, and they decline based on the distance your city was from the closest. You get 15 minutes to complete the quiz.

Europe 10K+ City Pairs Proximity Blackout – Choose Country

First, choose a European country (a few are not included as they have under 10 qualifying total cities) by entering it and choosing from the drop-down box – you will then be presented with a 5×5 table of random 10K+ cities among the 100 largest in that country (may be under 25 cities if less than that exist in that country). The object of the quiz is to pair up cities two at a time which have the shortest distance between them. Any cities with the same name in a country were left out of this quiz to avoid confusion.

Single click on a city’s text and it will highlight red. To choose the other city of the pair click another city’s text. Also, you can re-click on the first city to deselect it. The distance between them will be shown and you will get up to 100 points. 100 points corresponds to the closest pair of cities, 0 points to the farthest apart pair – scores decrease based on the distance of your two cities related to the possible range of distances. Those two cities will then be replaced with their score and you will now choose the closest pair of cities from the remaining 23 cities which have been adjusted to have 100 and 0 corresponding to the closest/farthest pairs among those 23, and so on until you run out of time or complete all pairs of cities leaving only 1 or 2 left.

Europe 10K+ Closest Cities To Your Location In Order – Choose Number

Begin by entering a number of cities – ’50’, ‘100’, ‘250’ or ‘5h’ – then name the closest European cities of 10K+ population to your geographic location (as determined by your browser’s location function) IN ORDER – meaning you have to name the closest first, then the 2nd closest, etc. Your location will show up as a bright purple marker, and the location you need to name (the closest unnamed one) will show up as a larger marker color-coded according to its population.

To use this quiz you will have to choose ‘Allow’ if your browser asks to share your current location – you also may have to restart the quiz after choosing this. If your browser does not allow getting your location the quiz will not load.

527

Europe 10K+ Expanding Circle Population Challenge – Your Location

First enter a level by typing '5M', '2.5M', '1M', or '500K' - you begin with that population figure (shown by 'Population Remaining'...the bigger the number the easier the quiz). The quiz will center in on your location - you must have your browser's location figure on. A pink marker will be placed at this location.

The object of this quiz is to accumulate 'Population Gotten' by typing in 10K+ Europe cities (see naming note below) moving outward from your marker without skipping cities. Any 10K+ city skipped will count against your Population Remaining. Any 10K+ city guessed correctly counts toward your Population Gotten. Population Gotten is your score for this quiz, this is the number you want to have as high as possible - it is the sum of the population of all your guesses.

Naming Note: You must add a '.' at the end of each city name for it to take - this is to prevent typing in another city name which is the first few letters of the city you wanted to type. There are a good number of these so to make it easiest I am simply requiring a '.' after each name you enter.

There are no time bonuses on this quiz.

A circle will be drawn going out to your last guess and showing that guess as a green marker and any missed cities that were closer as a red marker. All members can mouseover the green markers to see what their name, population and rank in terms of closeness to your location (i.e. #10 is 10th closest city). hugequiz Premium members can hover over the red markers as well to see the missed cities and their info.

Europe 10K+ Population Coverage

First choose a level by typing ‘beg’, ‘int’, ‘adv’ or ‘exp’ – beginner is 10,000,000, intermediate is 5,000,000, advanced is 1,000,000 and expert 500,000. Then, begin naming cities. All cities of 10K+ population starting with the city you chose and moving outward will begin filling in until you’ve hit a total population equal to or greater than your chosen level’s threshold. For example, if you choose ‘int’ – the threshold is 5 million. If you choose ‘paris’, then Paris will fill in and because its population is under 5 million, successive cities moving outward from Paris will fill in until the total population reaches at least 5 million. If you chose Moscow, only it would fill in as its population already meets your threshold.

Then, name any Europe 10K+ city in each 50 km circle/ring as the rings expand outward from your city of choice - NOTE - you must enter a period '.' at the end of the city to submit it. The first circle will include your city of choice as guessed. The object in this quiz is to guess the city in the next ring which is as close to the previous city as possible. The closest city will get you 100 points, the farthest away answer, 0 points.

When you run out of time or end the quiz, you will see the current ring's closest correct answer at right.

For example, if you choose ‘Paris, France’ – you will be shown a circle of radius 50 km centered at Paris and Paris will be selected. You will also see a ring of radius 50 km outside that circle. Naming a city in this ring will cause another ‘ring’ of radius 50 km to appear outside that ring and you will get 0-100 points, depending how close to Paris your city was. If a city is not within the next ring of that distance, the ring will keep expanding by that distance until a city falls within it. So if a city doesn’t fall within 50-100 kms, it will expand to be a 50-150 km ring, then 50-200 km and so on until a qualifying city is found within the ring.

Then, name any French 1K+ city in each 25 km circle/ring as the rings expand outward from your city of choice - NOTE - you must enter a period '.' at the end of the city to submit it. Germany 10K+ City Name Link Challenge

The object of this quiz is to pick a 10K+ city to start, then name successive German 10K+ cities such that the next city's first letter is the last letter of the current city and the next city is as close to the current city as possible. You MUST enter a '.' (period) at the end of the city name to submit it.

For example, you start with 'Munich' - you are now trying to name a 10K+ city starting with 'H' (the last letter of 'Munich') which is closest to Munich. If you answer 'Hanover.' - now you are trying to name the closest city to Hanover which starts with a 'R' and so on.

The quiz ends at the 25th city from the starting one. You get 100 points for naming the closest city on each step, and they decline based on the distance your city was from the closest. You get 15 minutes to complete the quiz.

Note: City naming is more precise than in other quizzes, some simplified alternates may not be accepted.

Germany 25 Km Expanding Circles Any City Distance Challenge – Choose City

First choose any German city by entering it and choosing it in the drop-down box. Then, name any German city in each 25 km circle/ring as the rings expand outward from your city of choice - NOTE - you must enter a period '.' at the end of the city to submit it.

For example, if you choose ‘Berlin’ – you will be shown a circle of radius 25 km centered at Berlin and Berlin will be selected. You will also see a ring of radius 25 km outside that circle. Naming a city in this ring will cause another ‘ring’ of radius 25 km to appear outside that ring and you will get 0-100 points, depending how close to Berlin your city was. If a city is not within the next ring of that distance, the ring will keep expanding by that distance until a city falls within it. So if a city doesn’t fall within 25-50 kms, it will expand to be a 25-75 km ring, then 25-100 km and so on until a qualifying city is found within the ring.

Germany 25 Km Expanding Circles Challenge – Choose City

First choose any Germany city by entering it and choosing it in the drop-down box. Then, name the largest Germany city in each 25km circle/ring as the rings expand outward from your city of choice. The first circle will include your city of choice as a possible answer if it is the largest city in that area.

When you run out of time or end the quiz, you will see the current ring’s correct answer at right (under ‘Answer Stats’ by your coordinates).

For example, if you choose ‘Berlin’ – you will be shown a circle of radius 25km centered at Berlin. Naming the largest city in this circle (Berlin in this case) will cause another ‘ring’ of radius 25km to appear outside that circle. You now need to name the largest Germany city in that ring (but not within any previous circles/rings). If a city is not within the next ring of that distance, the ring will keep expanding by that distance until a city falls within it. So if a city doesn’t fall within 25-50km, it will expand to be a 25-75km ring, then 25-100km and so on until a qualifying city is found within the ring.
