Germany 10K+ City Name Link Challenge

The object of this quiz is to pick a 10K+ city to start, then name successive German 10K+ cities such that the next city's first letter is the last letter of the current city and the next city is as close to the current city as possible. You MUST enter a '.' (period) at the end of the city name to submit it.

For example, you start with 'Munich' - you are now trying to name a 10K+ city starting with 'H' (the last letter of 'Munich') which is closest to Munich. If you answer 'Hanover.' - now you are trying to name the closest city to Hanover which starts with a 'R' and so on.

The quiz ends at the 25th city from the starting one. You get 100 points for naming the closest city on each step, and they decline based on the distance your city was from the closest. You get 15 minutes to complete the quiz.

Upon clicking START you will be presented with a 5x5 table of Germany 25K+ cities. The object of the quiz is to pair up cities two at a time which have the shortest distance between them.

Single click on a city's text and it will highlight red. To choose the other city of the pair click another city's text. Also, you can re-click on the first city to deselect it. The distance between them will be shown and you will get up to 100 points. 100 points corresponds to the closest pair of cities, 0 points to the farthest apart pair - scores decrease based on the distance of your two cities related to the possible range of distances. Those two cities will then be replaced with their score and you will now choose the closest pair of cities from the remaining 23 cities which have been adjusted to have 100 and 0 corresponding to the closest/farthest pairs among those 23, and so on until you run out of time or complete 12 pairs of cities leaving one left.

Germany Cities Grid Identifier Challenge

The object of this quiz is to double-click the grid square where cities are located (the centroid of the city is used). When you begin you will have a grid randomly placed with size 2 degrees latitude by 2 degrees longitude. You will be told which city to locate - simply double-click on that city's grid square and you will move on to the next city. Each time you go to a new city the squares are randomly redrawn and with a size 10% smaller. The first 10 cities will be 100K+, the next 10 50-100K, next 10 25-50K and the balance (until you run out of time or guess wrong) will be 10-25K. When you guess wrong the correct location will be shown as a pink marker.

You do get a break if you are within 2 km of the city but in the wrong square – you will not get credit for the guess but will get another chance at that level.

Choose a level by typing ‘beg’, ‘int’, ‘adv’, or ‘exp’ – beg level is 2 degree squares, int 1 degrees, adv 0.5 degree, and exp 0.25 degrees. Then, name any German city to start with by entering it (cities with the same name will choose the largest city of that name first). The grid square you are starting in will turn yellow - you now must name any city in any one of the adjacent grid squares (not including diagonal) - so any grid square directly north, south, east or west of the yellow one. Naming a city in one of these squares will turn your original square red and the current newly named city square yellow - continue in the same way trying to make a path of as many squares as you can. You are not allowed to return to a red square, and if you get 'boxed in' with no squares left to complete the quiz will also end.

Be aware that as you name cities it will answer the largest city first, so if you are trying to answer a city in a square to the east but a larger city of that name occurs a square to the north, the north one will be answered.

Obviously, due to the layout and separation of squares it will be impossible to complete all of them.

You'll be freehand drawing the federal states of Germany. When the quiz loads on the right side you will be told which state to draw. To begin drawing a state, click Draw or right-click anywhere in the map to enter drawing mode. Click and drag the mouse to make an outline of the state. Release the mouse to 'close' the state and it will appear green. If happy and ready to submit, click submit or double-click the drawn state. Click erase or right-click the state to erase it and try again. You may have to wait a few moments for your score to calculate on larger states.

You are only drawing the main portion of each state - do not worry about any disjointed islands, etc.

When you submit a state you are scored on the % of your state which contains the actual state (shown as '% In State') and the % of the actual state contained in your state (shown as '% Of State'). These average out to create your points for that state.
