Mammal Species Common Names
DirectionsName the last word of the common names of all mammal species according to Wilson & Reeder’s Mammal Species of the World 3rd Edition (2015). For example, if this were reptiles the “long-snouted grey alligator” would be answered with “alligator” – all species ending in that word will count when answering that final word. Total species for each final word shown. Object is total species, not common names. The final word must match exactly with the documented common name in the source. A handful of alternates are accepted for compound final words.
This quiz is fantastic — is it possible to do this for other animal groups? Totally understand if not, there are SO many more birds/reptiles/fish (especially fish omg) than mammals
Not really I’ve looked into it and other animals like reptiles or amphibians can’t be easily broken down into a good amount of common names.
please see the directions regarding the naming – I am sticking exactly to the source’s common names to determine which final words are answers (otherwise I would have to look up alternate names for all 5000+ species).
