World Countries Blackout
DirectionsClick START to begin – then fill in the 25 squares with World countries (see NAMING NOTE below) based on the categories in the rows and cells. For example, if you are looking at a cell with ‘Asia’ in its row, and ‘Starts With A’ in the column, that cell can be filled in with ‘Armenia.’ Many shortened names of countries are accepted, such as DRC, CAR, UAE, UK, US, etc. Answering a country which doesn’t fit in any remaining unanswered cell will end the quiz.
Occasionally a cell may not have a qualifying answer, in which case it will appear blank and be a gimme. After completing the quiz you can simply click RESTART to play again.
Please note that ‘star on flag’ does not include a representation of the Sun.
Scoring is based on 100 points for each correct (or blank) square, and 5 points are subtracted for every second used on the quiz. So you are rewarded for getting squares quickly, however be careful as not to name a country which doesn’t qualify for an open cell.
NAMING NOTE: You must type a ‘.’ (period) after a country name or abbreviation to submit it, to prevent entering a country you don’t want to (i.e. Guinea when you want to enter Guinea Bissau). For country naming purposes, the following names are used: Cote d’Ivoire, Timor-Leste.
hugequiz Premium members will see missed answers in red.
New quiz type (kinda) – a blackout for countries however you can get eliminated, this way it’s not just naming countries and hoping one fits.
Antigua and Barbuda should give correct for “star on flag” imo 🙂
Ah – ironically enough I don’t include the Sun as a ‘star’ on the flag 🙂 I’ll add a note in description.
I really enjoy this quiz… But would be better off just getting 2 or 3 fast countries and losing? My score would be better than trying to figure out other countries. I’ll still play for myself. Just wish scoring was a bit different. Thanks. I saw you play this on YouTube after watching Jake Lyons do a different quiz.
I love this quiz, but I just wish getting stuff correct after around the halfway mark wasn’t a detriment to your score. I also feel like filling the whole grid should give your score a bonus but that might just be me.
Are you sure there’s a north american country which borders 4 other countries? Do sea borders count as well?
Yep there is, in Central America.
Are you sure there’s a country with no standing army that ends with e?
Yep – it’s in the Middle East.
ah… that never crossed my mind.
I’ve been waiting for this quiz style
