The object of this quiz is to name to closest US 100K+ city to each purple marker that appears. When you begin the quiz you will be placed in a random location in the 48 contiguous states (might be over a body of water, but won’t be over an ocean) which will be denoted by a purple marker. Name the closest 100K+ US city to this marker by typing in the city name followed by a ‘.’ (period). You will then be given a score up to 100 (100 being the closest 100K+ city) based on how far away your city is in relation to how far away the closest one is. You get 25 cities for a maximum of 2500 points. If you name a city that has the same name as another possible answer, don’t worry – the closest city of that name will be chosen.

Can you explain more about how the scoring works? Seems like I get very close to a city, and it gives me ~60 points, whereas others I get a bit far away and it scores me in the 90s.

You get points based on the ratio of the distance of the city you guessed to the closest city’s distance. So if you guessed a city 2 miles away but the closest city was only 1 mile, you get 1/2 = 50 points. If you guessed a city 100 miles away but the closest was 90, you get 90/100 = 90 points.
