Belgium Cities Locator Streak Challenge

The object of this quiz is to locate as many of the top Belgian cities in a row you can without going over the maximum allowable distance away. The max distance allowed is 10 km for 50K+ cities and 5 km otherwise. Double-click to locate each city in order of population. If you are under the max distance allowed you will move on to the next city. When you double-click farther away than the max distance allowed the quiz will end.

PLEASE NOTE - To identify a city, click on the 'downtown' area to avoid clicking on a suburb or outer edge of the city. The distance will generally be measured from close to the center of a city's 'downtown.'

You begin with 10 minutes (or 5 for non-Premium members) and get 10 seconds added every time you double-click to locate a city.

Europe & US Cities Population Sorting Challenge

You begin with two European or US cities shown in the grid. Upon starting, your job is to sort the cities in order from largest to smallest by population (CITY PROPER population, not the metro area). The order is represented by the '1st' thru '16th' in each box. You can click on a city to move it to a higher position in the list - simply click once and it will turn red, then clicked another higher-ranked city to position the first city before it. Click submit to check your answers...if they are in order you will get a new city added to the end which needs to be positioned correctly, and so on until you either get one wrong or complete all 15 levels.

hugequiz Premium members will see city populations when the quiz is over.

You start with a blank map. Double-click on the map to create a circle of 100km radius centered on that location. All Europe 10K+ cities within 100km of that circle will appear and count toward your total cities. The object is to cover as many cities as possible in 50 circles. You can click within an already-created circle as well, however you may have to zoom in slightly so you aren’t clicking on an existing city marker.

Europe 100 Km Coverage Challenge

Choose any 10K+ European city, then continue naming 10K+ cities which are within 100km of any previously named city. Naming notes: many places have similar names. For example, “Brest” is not unique. To choose Brest, France, simply type “brestfr”, using the first two letters of the country name, or ‘uk’ for the UK (same as for Ukraine). Also, some answers require typing in other answers you may not want to guess. In this case, if you want to answer “Hamburg”, simply type it..”Ham, Belgium” will not be chosen. If you want simply “Ham” type ‘ham.’ with the period at the end. LASTLY, in a couple cases there are multiple places of the same name in a single country. Newcastle, UK is an example. To choose the largest Newcastle (typically the one you want), type ‘newcastleuk1’ – the rest are ‘newcastleuk2’ and so on (need the country too for any cases of multiple cities in one country, even if no other country has cities of that name). So basically, if the city isn’t coming up after you type the name, try adding a “.” after, or the country first two letters, or in some cases the country letters plus a number.

PLEASE NOTE: A wrong guess (a city not within 100km of a previous city) will end the game.

Europe 100 Km Expanding Circles 2nd Largest City Challenge – Choose City

First choose any Europe 10K+ pop city by entering it and choosing it in the drop-down box. Then, name any Europe 10K+ city in each 100 km circle/ring as the rings expand outward from your city of choice, trying to name SECOND LARGEST city in each circle. The first circle will include your city of choice as a possible answer.

PLEASE NOTE - You must type a '.' (period) after each city to submit it to prevent answering another city with a name you would be have to type to get your answer. If multiple cities have the name you submitted, only the largest one will be counted.

You accumulate points based on the population of the city you named in relation to the second largest city in the circle. A smaller city’s point total will be the ratio of its population to the largest, so if you name a city of 75K people and the largest city has 100K, you get 75 points. Naming the largest city will get you points based on the ratio of the 2nd largest city's population to the largest city's.

When you run out of time or end the quiz, you will see the current ring’s 2nd largest city at right (under ‘Answer Stats’ by your coordinates).

For example, if you choose ‘Paris’ – you will be shown a circle of radius 100 km centered at Paris. Naming any city in this circle (including Paris) will cause another ‘ring’ of radius 100 km to appear outside that circle, however - you will want to try naming the SECOND LARGEST city you can to get more points. After completing that circle, you now need to name any 10K+ Europe city in the new ring (but not within any previous circles/rings), again trying to name the 2nd largest city. If there are not two cities within the next ring of that distance, the ring will keep expanding by that distance until two cities fall within it.

Europe 100 Km Expanding Circles Challenge – Choose City

First choose any Europe 10K+ city by entering it and choosing it in the drop-down box. Then, name the largest 10K+ Europe city in each 100km circle/ring as the rings expand outward from your city of choice. The first circle will include your city of choice as a possible answer if it is the largest 10K+ city in that area.

When you run out of time or end the quiz, you will see the current ring's correct answer at right (under 'Answer Stats' by your coordinates).

For example, if you choose 'Paris, France' - you will be shown a circle of radius 100km centered at Paris. Naming the largest city in this circle (Parisin this case) will cause another 'ring' of radius 100km to appear outside that circle. You now need to name the largest 10K+ European city in that ring (but not within any previous circles/rings). If a city is not within the next ring of that distance, the ring will keep expanding by that distance until a city falls within it. So if a city doesn't fall within 100-200km, it will expand to be a 100-200km ring, then 100-300km and so on until a qualifying city is found within the ring.

When you run out of time or end the quiz, you will see the current ring's largest population correct answer at right (under 'Answer Stats' by your coordinates).

For example, if you choose 'Paris, France' - you will be shown a circle of radius 100km centered at Paris. Europe 100K+ City Name Link Challenge

The object of this quiz is to pick a Europe 100K+ city to start, then name successive 100K+ European cities such that the next city's first letter is the last letter of the current city and the next city is as close to the current city as possible. On this quiz alternates are generally accepted, however only the main (usually official) name is counted as it relates to naming the next city. Cities of the same name will answer the closest city first. NOTE: You must type a '.' (period) after the city to submit it. Cities must be a minimum of 100k population. The same city cannot be used twice in this quiz.

For example, you start with 'Paris' - you are now trying to name a city starting with 'S' (the last letter of 'Paris') which is closest to Paris. If you answer 'Strasbourg' - now you are trying to name the closest city to Strasbourg which starts with a 'G' and so on.

The quiz ends at the 25th city from the starting one. You get 100 points for naming the closest city on each step, and they decline based on the distance your city was from the closest. You get 15 minutes to complete the quiz.

Europe 10K+ City Shrinking Coverage Challenge

You begin with a radius of 500km. Enter Europe 10K+ city names and all 10K+ European cities within that radius will fill in, HOWEVER each time you use a circle the radius will shrink by 5%. Try to cover as many cities as possible as the circles get smaller. Time is not part of the score on this quiz.

hugequiz Premium members will see the 25 largest missed cities at the end of the quiz as large, purple markers.

Notes for this quiz: answering a city that has the same name in multiple locations will reduce the circle 5% in radius for each unique city that matches, so if you enter 'Brest' - it will fill one of the 2 with whatever radius you are at, then shrink it 5% and fill the other, and again shrink it 5% more until you make your next guess. So it may not be wise to use a common city name. Also, to enter a city such as 'Moscow' without entering 'Mos' (a city in Spain) you can simply type for example "xmoscow" then delete the x, thereby preventing you from typing 'mos' - there are a handful of cities like this.

Europe 10K+ Expanding Circle Population Challenge – Your Location

First enter a level by typing '5M', '2.5M', '1M', or '500K' - you begin with that population figure (shown by 'Population Remaining'...the bigger the number the easier the quiz). The quiz will center in on your location - you must have your browser's location figure on. A pink marker will be placed at this location.

The object of this quiz is to accumulate 'Population Gotten' by typing in 10K+ Europe cities (see naming note below) moving outward from your marker without skipping cities. Any 10K+ city skipped will count against your Population Remaining. Any 10K+ city guessed correctly counts toward your Population Gotten. Population Gotten is your score for this quiz, this is the number you want to have as high as possible - it is the sum of the population of all your guesses.

Naming Note: You must add a '.' at the end of each city name for it to take - this is to prevent typing in another city name which is the first few letters of the city you wanted to type. There are a good number of these so to make it easiest I am simply requiring a '.' after each name you enter.

There are no time bonuses on this quiz.

A circle will be drawn going out to your last guess and showing that guess as a green marker and any missed cities that were closer as a red marker. All members can mouseover the green markers to see what their name, population and rank in terms of closeness to your location (i.e. #10 is 10th closest city). hugequiz Premium members can hover over the red markers as well to see the missed cities and their info.

Europe 20,000 Km Challenge

You have 15 min or 20K km to travel Europe trying to total the highest total population of 10K+ cities visited. Cyprus, Iceland and Azores not included. How to play: Enter any 10K+ Euro city to begin. A marker will be placed there. Next, enter a (hopefully) nearby 10K+ city. The Google Maps route and next city will be displayed, and the population counter will accumulate. Continue ‘visiting’ more cities trying to get the highest population before reaching 20,000 km. Once you enter a city that pushes the total distance over 20,000 km, the game will end. NAMING NOTES – Some cities have the same names or must be entered to enter a longer city name…enter the city name followed by the FIRST TWO LETTERS of the country name (i.e. ‘brestfr’ or ‘london.’ (due to Londonderry)). Therefore if a city isn’t working add the country’s first 2 letters (use “UN” for United Kingdom) to the end of it, as it has one of these conflicts. ALSO some countries have multiple cities of the same name – to answer these use the city, then first two letters of the country, then a number, starting with “1” for the most populous city of that name in that country…i.e. “newportun1” is the largest Newport in the UK, whereas “newportun2” is the 2nd largest.

Please note – this quiz is only available to hugequiz Premium members, as it costs money for me to use the Google Directions API and this quiz is more costly than the other street view ones.

For example, if you choose ‘Paris, France’ – you will be shown a circle of radius 50 km centered at Paris and Paris will be selected. You will also see a ring of radius 50 km outside that circle. Naming a city in this ring will cause another ‘ring’ of radius 50 km to appear outside that ring and you will get 0-100 points, depending how close to Paris your city was. If a city is not within the next ring of that distance, the ring will keep expanding by that distance until a city falls within it. So if a city doesn’t fall within 50-100 kms, it will expand to be a 50-150 km ring, then 50-200 km and so on until a qualifying city is found within the ring.

Europe 50 Km Expanding Circles Challenge – Choose City

First choose any Europe 10K+ city by entering it and choosing it in the drop-down box. Then, name the largest 10K+ Europe city in each 50km circle/ring as the rings expand outward from your city of choice. The first circle will include your city of choice as a possible answer if it is the largest 10K+ city in that area.

When you run out of time or end the quiz, you will see the current ring's correct answer at right (under 'Answer Stats' by your coordinates).

For example, if you choose 'Paris, France' - you will be shown a circle of radius 50km centered at Paris. Naming the largest city in this circle (Paris in this case) will cause another 'ring' of radius 50km to appear outside that circle. You now need to name the largest 10K+ European city in that ring (but not within any previous circles/rings). If a city is not within the next ring of that distance, the ring will keep expanding by that distance until a city falls within it. So if a city doesn't fall within 50-100km, it will expand to be a 50-150km ring, then 50-200km and so on until a qualifying city is found within the ring.

Europe 50 Km Expanding Circles Largest City Challenge – Choose City

First choose any European 10K+ pop city by entering it and choosing it in the drop-down box. Then, name any Europe 10K+ city in each 50 km circle/ring as the rings expand outward from your city of choice, trying to name LARGEST city in each circle. The first circle will include your city of choice as a possible answer.

PLEASE NOTE - You must type a '.' (period) after each city to submit it to prevent answering another city with a name you would be have to type to get your answer. If multiple cities have the name you submitted, only the largest one will be counted.

You accumulate points based on the population of the city you named in relation to the largest city in the circle. Naming the largest city will get you 100 points. A smaller city’s point total will be the ratio of its population to the largest, so if you name a city of 75K people and the largest city has 100K, you get 75 points.

When you run out of time or end the quiz, you will see the current ring’s largest correct answer at right (under ‘Answer Stats’ by your coordinates).

For example, if you choose ‘Paris’ – you will be shown a circle of radius 50 km centered at Paris. Naming any city in this circle (including Paris) will cause another ‘ring’ of radius 50 km to appear outside that circle, however - you will want to try naming the LARGEST city you can to get more points (Paris will be 100 points). After completing that circle, you now need to name any 10K+ Europe city in the new ring (but not within any previous circles/rings), again trying to name as large a city as possible. If a city is not within the next ring of that distance, the ring will keep expanding by that distance until a city falls within it. So if a city doesn’t fall within 50-100 km, it will expand to be a 50-150 km ring, then 50-200 km and so on until a qualifying city is found within the ring.

Europe 50 Km Expanding Circles Small City Challenge – Choose City

First choose any European 10K+ pop city by entering it and choosing it in the drop-down box. Then, name any Europe 10K+ city in each 50 km circle/ring as the rings expand outward from your city of choice, trying to name SMALLER cities instead of the easier, larger cities. The first circle will include your city of choice as a possible answer.

PLEASE NOTE - You must type a '.' (period) after each city to submit it to prevent answering another city with a name you would be have to type to get your answer. If multiple cities have the name you submitted, only the smallest one will be counted.

You accumulate points based on the population of the city you named according to the following scale:
10K - 24,999 - 10 pts
25K - 49,999 - 8 pts
50K - 74,999 - 6 pts
75K - 99,999 - 4 pts
100K - 249,999 - 3 pts
250K - 499,999 - 2 pts
500K+ - 1 pt

When you run out of time or end the quiz, you will see the current ring’s smallest correct answer at right (under ‘Answer Stats’ by your coordinates).

For example, if you choose ‘Paris’ – you will be shown a circle of radius 50 km centered at Paris. Naming any city in this circle (including Paris) will cause another ‘ring’ of radius 50 km to appear outside that circle, however - you will want to try naming the SMALLEST city you can to get more points (Paris will only yield 1 point). After completing that circle, you now need to name any 10K+ Europe city in the new ring (but not within any previous circles/rings), again trying to name as small a city as possible. If a city is not within the next ring of that distance, the ring will keep expanding by that distance until a city falls within it. So if a city doesn’t fall within 50-100 km, it will expand to be a 50-150 km ring, then 50-200 km and so on until a qualifying city is found within the ring.

Europe Bordering Countries Minimum Population Challenge

The object of this game is to click on successive bordering countries to 'travel' through up to 25 European countries with the objective of accumulating the smallest total population among all countries traveled through. Borders are land borders only and include dependent territory borders, populations also include territories. Population in millions is shown. You must complete 25 countries for your score to save - so for example you can't get 'stuck' somewhere like Portugal with no other countries available to click on unless it happens to be your 25th country clicked. Turkey and Russia are included and their populations are total population of the country.

For example, you can begin by clicking Russia - your next country can be any country bordering Russia, such as Ukraine. After clicking Ukraine you can choose any country bordering Ukraine except a country you have already visited (in this case just Russia). You must continue along your path and can't click a bordering country from a previously-clicked country unless it borders the country you just clicked.

Europe Capitals Triplets Blackout Challenge

Upon clicking START you will be presented with a 5×5 grid of 25 of the capital cities of European countries.

The object of this quiz is to choose the top 3 in the given category for the capitals shown in the grid. When you begin you’ll be given 25 different capitals plus a category to name the top 3 in, which will display just above the grid. For example, if the category says ‘Top 3 Largest Population’ you are to click on the 3 capitals with the largest population. If it says ‘Top 3 Lowest Population Density’ you are to click on the 3 whose population density is the lowest. You can deselect the first or second capital you chose on by re-clicking it, but when you choose the 3rd capital they will be submitted, removed from the grid, and you will get a score from 0-100 based on how close your set of 3 comes to the optimum set of 3 (which will be shown as a ‘Rank’ on top out of the # of possible sets of 3 for the last choice). When you’ve answered all 8 sets of 3 leaving only 1 capital the quiz is over. You get a 100 points bonus for completing the sets making for a total possible score of 2500.

You are scored based on how many people you cover compared to the maximum possible (score is based on the ratio of people in your circle compared to max possible - score is not an exact ratio but falls faster than that).

PLEASE NOTE: ALL of Turkey is included in counting population (not just European portion), and the portion of Russia west of 61.5 degrees E (just east of Chelyabinsk). Nothing outside Europe (such as Africa or middle east other than Turkey) is included toward the population count within a circle.

Adjust the circle's radius by dragging it until it contains the target number of people shown - this target will be between 5 and 100 million people. Then click submit. You are scored on how close your circle's population is to the target.

Europe Cities Grid Identifier Challenge

The object of this quiz is to double-click the grid square where cities are located (the centroid of the city is used). When you begin you will have a grid randomly placed with size 5 degrees latitude by 5 degrees longitude. You will be told which city to locate - simply double-click on that city's grid square and you will move on to the next city. Each time you go to a new city the squares are randomly redrawn and with a size 10% smaller. The first 10 cities will be 500K+, the next 10 250-500K, next 10 100-250K and the balance (until you run out of time or guess wrong) will be 50-100K. When you guess wrong the correct location will be shown as a pink marker.

You do get a break if you are within 2 km of the city but in the wrong square - you will not get credit for the guess but will get another chance at that level.

Russia is NOT included on this quiz.

Europe Country Drawing Challenge

Time for you to show what you've really got. You'll be freehand drawing countries of Europe. When the quiz loads on the right side you will be told which country to draw. To begin drawing a country, click Draw or right-click anywhere in the map to enter drawing mode. Click and drag the mouse to make an outline of the country. Release the mouse to 'close' the country and it will appear green. If happy and ready to submit, click submit or double-click the drawn country. Click erase or right-click the country to erase it and try again. You may have to wait a few moments for your score to calculate on larger countries.

You are only drawing the main portion of each country - do not worry about any disjointed islands, etc. Cyprus, Iceland, Malta, Russia, UK and Turkey are not included. For Denmark, you are only drawing Jutland (the part connected to Germany).

When you submit a country you are scored on the % of your country which contains the actual country (shown as '% In Country') and the % of the actual country contained in your country (shown as '% Of Country'). These average out to create your points for that country.

Complete all countries or click End Quiz at any time to save your score. Don't forget to take a screenshot of your beautifully drawn Europe!

Upon clicking START you will be presented with a 5x5 grid of Europe countries.

The object of this quiz is to choose the top 3 in the given category for the countries shown in the grid. When you begin you'll be given 25 different countries plus a category to name the top 3 in, which will display just above the grid. For example, if the category says 'Top 3 Largest Area' you are to click on the 3 countries with the largest area. If it says 'Top 3 Smallest Max Elevation' you are to click on the 3 countries whose max elevation is the lowest. You can deselect the first or second country you chose on by re-clicking it, but when you choose the 3rd country they will be submitted, removed from the grid, and you will get a score from 0-100 based on how close your set of 3 comes to the optimum set of 3 (which will be shown as a 'Rank' on top out of the # of possible sets of 3 for the last choice). When you've answered all 8 sets of 3 leaving only 1 country the quiz is over. You get a 100 points bonus for completing the sets making for a total possible score of 2500.

PLEASE NOTE - countries INCLUDED dependent territories EXCEPT for the 'Highest/Lowest Mean Temp' categories, which only applies to the 'main' portion of the country (i.e. no Greenland for Denmark for average temp). Also for Russia and Turkey, numbers/rankings include the entire country, not just the portion in Europe.

Europe Expanding Circles Challenge – Your Location

First choose a level by typing '25', '50', '100' or '200' - then name the largest European 10K+ city in the circle/ring of that distance range (in km) as the rings expand outward from your location. You need to have your browser's location function working or the quiz will not load.

You MUST have a city within the initial distance you choose for your level - so this quiz will not work if you are not within Europe (or at least not within your level's distance of a Europe 10K+ city).

When you run out of time or end the quiz, you will see the current ring's correct answer at right (under 'Answer Stats' by your coordinates).

For example, if you choose '10' - you will be shown a circle of radius 10 km centered at your location. Naming the largest city in this circle will cause another 'ring' of radius 10 to appear outside that circle. You now need to name the largest Europe 10K+ city in that ring (but not within any previous circles/rings). If a city is not within the next ring of that distance, the ring will keep expanding by that distance until a city falls within it. So if a city doesn't fall within 20-30 km (assuming your level is 10 km), it will expand to be a 20-40 km ring, then 20-50 km and so on until a city is found within the ring.

Europe Grid Path Challenge – All Cities

Choose a level by typing ‘beg’, ‘int’, ‘adv’, or ‘exp’ – beg level is 5 degree squares, int 2.5 degrees, adv 1 degree, and exp 0.5 degrees. Then, name any 10K+ Europe city to start with by entering it (cities with the same name will choose the largest city of that name first). The grid square you are starting in will turn yellow - you now must name any city in any one of the adjacent grid squares (not including diagonal) - so any grid square directly north, south, east or west of the yellow one. Naming a city in one of these squares will turn your original square red and the current newly named city square yellow - continue in the same way trying to make a path of as many squares as you can. You are not allowed to return to a red square, and if you get 'boxed in' with no squares left to complete the quiz will also end.

Please note, as you name cities it will answer the largest city first, so if you are trying to answer a city in a square to the east but a larger city of that name occurs a square to the north, the north one will be answered.

Obviously, due to the layout and separation of squares it will be impossible to complete all of them.

Europe Grid Top 5 Challenge

Type 'easy' or 'hard' to begin the quiz. Easy is a 5-degree grid, hard is a 2.5-degree grid. Then, try to name the largest 10K+ Europe cities in each square IN ORDER. To name a city, you must first click on the grid square to make it have a GREEN border. Then, type in the city answer for that square followed by a '.' (a period).

The squares will start with '0/5' (or maybe fewer cities if less exist in that square). Click on a square and enter the largest city in that square not yet answered (so, the largest city if you have yet to answer a city in that square). You will then have '1/5' and need to click on that square to name the 2nd largest city, and so on until you complete all the cities up to 5 (or less if less exist). If you name an incorrect city in a square it becomes 'locked' and turns red and you can no longer accumulate cities in that square.

You receive 1 point for the largest city in a square, 2 for the 2nd largest, and so on.

At the end of the quiz the largest remaining city you haven't named will be shown in each square.

Then, name any 10K+ Europe city to start with by entering it (cities with the same name will choose the largest city of that name first). You will be told which city to locate - simply double-click on that city's grid square and you will move on to the next city. Each time you go to a new city the squares are randomly redrawn and with a size 10% smaller. The first 10 cities will be 25K+, the next 10 10-25K, next 10 5-10K and the balance (until you run out of time or guess wrong) will be 1-5K. When you guess wrong the correct location will be shown as a pink marker.

You do get a break if you are within 2 km of the city but in the wrong square – you will not get credit for the guess but will get another chance at that level.

After the quiz is over you can click RESTART to retry it without refreshing the page.

The object of this quiz is to pick a 10K+ city to start, then name successive French 10K+ cities such that the next city's first letter is the last letter of the current city and the next city is as close to the current city as possible. You MUST enter a '.' (period) at the end of the city name to submit it. Please note as well, you will in most cases need to write out the entire city name, shortened versions may not answer the city you are trying to guess.

For example, you start with 'Paris' - you are now trying to name a 10K+ city starting with 'S' (the last letter of 'Paris') which is closest to Paris. If you answer 'St Denis.' - now you are trying to name the closest city to St Denis which starts with a 'S' and so on.

The quiz ends at the 25th city from the starting one. You get 100 points for naming the closest city on each step, and they decline based on the distance your city was from the closest. You get 15 minutes to complete the quiz.

Note: City naming is more precise than in other quizzes, some simplified alternates may not be accepted.

NAMING NOTES: because of the number of similarly named French cities you must end each city with a '.' and use the full city name, no partial names are accepted - i.e. 'paris.' or 'laseynesurmer.' (just 'laseyne.' is not accepted in this quiz) - also, there are some cities with the exact same names, to choose the one you want simply enter the department name after the city, for example there are multiple 'Chatillon' names, to choose the one in Hauts-de-Seine simply type 'chatillonhautsdeseine.' - you still need the period.

You are given a score from 0 to 100 based on your answer's population compared to the 2nd largest city accepted in that square (100 being you named the 2nd largest city). If you guess the largest city it will be based on the ratio of the 2nd largest city's population to the largest.

France Grid Path Challenge – All Cities

Choose a level by typing ‘beg’, ‘int’, ‘adv’, or ‘exp’ – beg level is 2 degree squares, int 1 degrees, adv 0.5 degree, and exp 0.25 degrees. Then, name any France 1K+ city to start with by entering it (cities with the same name will choose the largest city of that name first).

Be aware that as you name cities it will answer the largest city first, so if you are trying to answer a city in a square to the east but a larger city of that name occurs a square to the north, the north one will be answered.

Obviously, due to the layout and separation of squares it will be impossible to complete all of them.

hugequiz Premium members will see the largest missed city in each possible next square at the end of the quiz as purple markers.

You will then have '1/5' and need to click on that square to name the 2nd largest city, and so on until you complete all the cities up to 5 (or less if less exist). If you name an incorrect city in a square it becomes 'locked' and turns red and you can no longer accumulate cities in that square.

Germany 10 Km Expanding Circles Challenge – Choose City

First choose any German city by entering it and choosing it in the drop-down box. Then, name the largest German city in each 10 km circle/ring as the rings expand outward from your city of choice. The first circle will include your city of choice as a possible answer if it is the largest city in that area.

When you run out of time or end the quiz, you will see the current ring's correct answer at right (under 'Answer Stats' by your coordinates).

For example, if you choose 'Bremen' - you will be shown a circle of radius 10 km centered at Bremen. Naming the largest city in this circle (Bremen in this case) will cause another 'ring' of radius 10 km to appear outside that circle. You now need to name the largest Germany city in that ring (but not within any previous circles/rings). If a city is not within the next ring of that distance, the ring will keep expanding by that distance until a city falls within it. So if a city doesn't fall within 10-20 km, it will expand to be a 10-30 km ring, then 10-40 km and so on until a qualifying city is found within the ring.

Germany 10K+ City Name Link Challenge

The object of this quiz is to pick a 10K+ city to start, then name successive German 10K+ cities such that the next city's first letter is the last letter of the current city and the next city is as close to the current city as possible. You MUST enter a '.' (period) at the end of the city name to submit it.

For example, you start with 'Munich' - you are now trying to name a 10K+ city starting with 'H' (the last letter of 'Munich') which is closest to Munich. If you answer 'Hanover.' - now you are trying to name the closest city to Hanover which starts with a 'R' and so on.

Germany 25 Km Expanding Circles Any City Distance Challenge – Choose City

First choose any German city by entering it and choosing it in the drop-down box. Then, name any German city in each 25 km circle/ring as the rings expand outward from your city of choice - NOTE - you must enter a period '.' at the end of the city to submit it. The first circle will include your city of choice as guessed. The object in this quiz is to guess the city in the next ring which is as close to the previous city as possible. The closest city will get you 100 points, the farthest away answer, 0 points.

When you run out of time or end the quiz, you will see the current ring's closest correct answer at right.

For example, if you choose ‘Berlin’ – you will be shown a circle of radius 25 km centered at Berlin and Berlin will be selected. You will also see a ring of radius 25 km outside that circle. Naming a city in this ring will cause another ‘ring’ of radius 25 km to appear outside that ring and you will get 0-100 points, depending how close to Berlin your city was. If a city is not within the next ring of that distance, the ring will keep expanding by that distance until a city falls within it. So if a city doesn’t fall within 25-50 kms, it will expand to be a 25-75 km ring, then 25-100 km and so on until a qualifying city is found within the ring.

Italy 10 Km Expanding Circles Challenge – Choose City

First choose any Italian city by entering it and choosing it in the drop-down box. Then, name the largest Italian city in each 10 km circle/ring as the rings expand outward from your city of choice. The first circle will include your city of choice as a possible answer if it is the largest city in that area.

When you run out of time or end the quiz, you will see the current ring's correct answer at right (under 'Answer Stats' by your coordinates).

For example, if you choose 'Leeds' - you will be shown a circle of radius 10 km centered at Leeds. Naming the largest city in this circle (Leeds in this case) will cause another 'ring' of radius 10 km to appear outside that circle. You now need to name the largest Italy city in that ring (but not within any previous circles/rings). If a city is not within the next ring of that distance, the ring will keep expanding by that distance until a city falls within it. So if a city doesn't fall within 10-20 km, it will expand to be a 10-30 km ring, then 10-40 km and so on until a qualifying city is found within the ring.

Italy 10K+ Cities Locator Timed Challenge

The object of this quiz is to click on 10K+ city locations as quickly and accurately as you can. You get 25 random Italian cities from among all Italian 10K+ cities. You will be scored based on Time, Distance, and Closest Cities. Closest Cities refers to how many cities (among ALL cities, not just 10K+ ones) are located closer to the actual city's location than where you clicked. Upon clicking START you will see cities listed one at a time in the upper right on the side of the map. Double-click where that city is as fast and accurately as possible. You will then get a score of 0-100 based on those 3 factors. Also, up to 10 of the closest cities to the target city that you weren't within will be displayed. Click NEXT CITY to continue on.

NOTE – For cities with the same name, you are trying to click on the LARGEST city of that name.

For Premium members, this quiz is much easier to play on Google Maps full screen mode.

Italy 10K+ City Name Link Challenge

The object of this quiz is to pick a 10K+ city to start, then name successive Italian 10K+ cities such that the next city's first letter is the last letter of the current city and the next city is as close to the current city as possible. You MUST enter a '.' (period) at the end of the city name to submit it.

For example, you start with 'Milan' - you are now trying to name a 10K+ city starting with 'N' (the last letter of 'Milan') which is closest to Milan. If you answer 'Naples.' - now you are trying to name the closest city to Naples which starts with a 'S' and so on.

Italy 25 Km Expanding Circles Any City Distance Challenge – Choose City

First choose any Italy city by entering it and choosing it in the drop-down box. Then, name any Italy city in each 25 km circle/ring as the rings expand outward from your city of choice - NOTE - you must enter a period '.' at the end of the city to submit it.

For example, if you choose ‘Rome’ – you will be shown a circle of radius 25 km centered at Rome and Rome will be selected. You will also see a ring of radius 25 km outside that circle. Naming a city in this ring will cause another ‘ring’ of radius 25 km to appear outside that ring and you will get 0-100 points, depending how close to Rome your city was. If a city is not within the next ring of that distance, the ring will keep expanding by that distance until a city falls within it. So if a city doesn’t fall within 25-50 kms, it will expand to be a 25-75 km ring, then 25-100 km and so on until a qualifying city is found within the ring.

Italy Grid Path Challenge – All Cities

Choose a level by typing ‘beg’, ‘int’, ‘adv’, or ‘exp’ – beg level is 2 degree squares, int 1 degrees, adv 0.5 degree, and exp 0.25 degrees. Then, name any Italy city to start with by entering it (cities with the same name will choose the largest city of that name first).

Be aware that as you name cities it will answer the largest city first, so if you are trying to answer a city in a square to the east but a larger city of that name occurs a square to the north, the north one will be answered.

Obviously, due to the layout and separation of squares it will be impossible to complete all of them.

Russia Grid Path Challenge – All Cities

Choose a level by typing ‘beg’, ‘int’, ‘adv’, or ‘exp’ – beg level is 10 degree squares, int 5 degrees, adv 2.5 degree, and exp 1 degrees. Then, name any Russia city to start with by entering it (cities with the same name will choose the largest city of that name first).

Be aware that as you name cities it will answer the largest city first, so if you are trying to answer a city in a square to the east but a larger city of that name occurs a square to the north, the north one will be answered.

Obviously, due to the layout and separation of squares it will be impossible to complete all of them.

Spain 10 Km Expanding Circles Challenge – Choose City

First choose any Spanish city by entering it and choosing it in the drop-down box. Then, name the largest Spanish city in each 10 km circle/ring as the rings expand outward from your city of choice.

You now need to name the largest Spain city in that ring (but not within any previous circles/rings). If a city is not within the next ring of that distance, the ring will keep expanding by that distance until a city falls within it. So if a city doesn't fall within 10-20 km, it will expand to be a 10-30 km ring, then 10-40 km and so on until a qualifying city is found within the ring.

Spain 10K+ City Name Link Challenge

The object of this quiz is to pick a 10K+ city to start, then name successive Spanish 10K+ cities such that the next city's first letter is the last letter of the current city and the next city is as close to the current city as possible. You MUST enter a '.' (period) at the end of the city name to submit it.

For example, you start with 'Barcelona' - you are now trying to name a 10K+ city starting with 'A' (the last letter of 'Barcelona') which is closest to Barcelona. If you answer 'A Coruna.' - now you are trying to name the closest city to A Coruna which starts with a 'A' and so on.

Spain 25 Km Expanding Circles Any City Distance Challenge – Choose City

First choose any Spain city by entering it and choosing it in the drop-down box. Then, name any Spain city in each 25 km circle/ring as the rings expand outward from your city of choice - NOTE - you must enter a period '.' at the end of the city to submit it.

For example, if you choose ‘Madrid’ – you will be shown a circle of radius 25 km centered at Madrid and Madrid will be selected. You will also see a ring of radius 25 km outside that circle. Naming a city in this ring will cause another ‘ring’ of radius 25 km to appear outside that ring and you will get 0-100 points, depending how close to Madrid your city was. If a city is not within the next ring of that distance, the ring will keep expanding by that distance until a city falls within it. So if a city doesn’t fall within 25-50 kms, it will expand to be a 25-75 km ring, then 25-100 km and so on until a qualifying city is found within the ring.

UK 1K+ Cities 25 Km Coverage Challenge

Choose any 1K+ UK city (see naming notes below), then continue naming 1K+ UK cities which are within 25km of any previously named city, trying to accumulate the most total cities covered. If you name a city outside a blue circle, the quiz will end.

You can't go from Great Britain to Northern Ireland or vice versa in this quiz so I don't recommend bothering with Northern Ireland :)

NAMING NOTES: because of the number of similarly named UK cities you must end each city with a '.' - i.e. 'london.' or 'liverpool.' - also, there are about 370 names which match exactly with other city names (for example, there are 5 'Sutton' cities). To choose the largest of these type 'sutton1.' with the 1 for its rank, and the period at the end as well. So be careful that you know which rank the city you want chosen is (usually it will be the largest). Sorry, just don't know another way around this, often the cities are in the same country of the UK so can't differentiate using that either. Therefore, if you are trying to name a city and just typing the name with a '.' at the end doesn't take, that means there are multiple cities of that name and you must use a number as well before the period.

You are given a score from 0 to 100 based on your answer's population compared to the 2nd largest city accepted in that square (100 being you named the 2nd largest city). If you guess the largest city it will be based on the ratio of the 2nd largest city's population to the largest.

At the end of the quiz the 2nd largest city will show in each unanswered square, and for those answered the 2nd largest city will be listed next to your score if you didn't answer it.

UK 1K+ City Name Link Challenge

The object of this quiz is to pick a city to start, then name successive UK 1K+ cities such that the next city's first letter is the last letter of the current city and the next city is as close to the current city as possible. You MUST enter a '.' (period) at the end of the city name to submit it. Cities must be typed out in full, so 'Newcastle upon Tyne.' for Newcastle, and so on.

For example, you start with 'Birmingham' - you are now trying to name a city starting with 'M' (the last letter of 'Birmingham') which is closest to Birmingham. If you answer 'Manchester.' - now you are trying to name the closest city to Manchester which starts with a 'R' and so on.

UK 1K+ City Population Coverage

First choose a level by typing 'beg', 'int', 'adv' or 'exp' - beginner is 2,500,000, intermediate is 1,000,000, advanced is 250,000 and expert 100,000. Then, begin naming cities. All cities of at least 1K+ population starting with the city you chose and moving outward will begin filling in until you've hit a total population equal to or greater than your chosen level's threshold. For example, if you choose 'int' - the threshold is 1 million. If you choose 'glasgow', then Glasgow will fill in and because its population is under 1 million, successive cities moving outward from Glasgow will fill in until the total population reaches at least 1 million. If you chose London, only London would fill in as its population already meets your threshold.

Premium members can now also play a 3-hour time limit 'custom' coverage quiz of any population from 50,000 to 5,000,000, simply enter the population followed by a '.' instead of choosing from one of the four levels, i.e. '750000.' Quiz score is not recorded for the custom coverage option.

UK 2,000 Km Challenge

You have 15 min or 2,000 km to travel the UK trying to total the highest total population of 1K+ cities visited. How to play: Enter any 1K+ UK city to begin (see NAMING NOTES below). A marker will be placed there. Next, enter a (hopefully) nearby 1K+ city. The Google Maps route and next city will be displayed, and the population counter will accumulate. Continue ‘visiting’ more cities trying to get the highest population before reaching 2,000 km. Once you enter a city that pushes the total distance over 2,000 km, the game will end.

NAMING NOTES – due to many UK cities having similar names, you must add a '.' at the end of each entry, i.e. 'london.' or 'leeds.' - also some UK cities have similar names - i.e. there are 5 Suttons - to choose the correct one (usually the largest) type 'sutton1.' - the '1' refers to the rank among the Sutton in terms of population, and you still need the period at the end. So if an answer isn't taking you may have to add a number (usually a '1') before the period as there are other places with the same name.

Please note – this quiz is only available to hugequiz Premium members, as it costs money for me to use the Google Directions API and this quiz is more costly than the other street view ones.

UK 25 Km Expanding Circles 1K+ City Distance Challenge – Choose City

First choose any UK 1K+ city by entering it and choosing it in the drop-down box. Then, name any UK 1K+ city in each 25 km circle/ring as the rings expand outward from your city of choice - NOTE - you must enter a period '.' at the end of the city to submit it.

For example, if you choose ‘London’ – you will be shown a circle of radius 25 km centered at London and London will be selected. You will also see a ring of radius 25 km outside that circle. Naming a city in this ring will cause another ‘ring’ of radius 25 km to appear outside that ring and you will get 0-100 points, depending how close to London your city was. If a city is not within the next ring of that distance, the ring will keep expanding by that distance until a city falls within it. So if a city doesn’t fall within 25-50 kms, it will expand to be a 25-75 km ring, then 25-100 km and so on until a qualifying city is found within the ring.

UK Circle Radius Population Challenge

The object of this quiz is to adjust each circle's radius so it contains the target population shown at the right. When you click Start you will be shown a marker on a random UK output area (there are over 200K output areas - also called Data Zones in Scotland and N Ireland - across the UK, the smallest census tabulation area). Also you will see an adjustable circle of radius 100 km to start. Adjust the circle's radius by dragging it until it contains the target number of people shown - this target will be between 25K and 5 million people. Then click submit. You are scored on how close your circle's population is to the target. Circle population is tallied by totaling all output areas within that circle.

NOTE - This quiz does NOT include any people in Ireland or other countries outside the UK, you are only trying to total the target number of people within the UK.

UK Cities Grid Identifier Challenge

The object of this quiz is to double-click the grid square where cities are located (the centroid of the city is used). When you begin you will have a grid randomly placed with size 2 degrees latitude by 2 degrees longitude. You will be told which city to locate - simply double-click on that city's grid square and you will move on to the next city. Each time you go to a new city the squares are randomly redrawn and with a size 10% smaller. The first 10 cities will be 100K+, the next 10 50-100K, next 10 25-50K and the balance (until you run out of time or guess wrong) will be 10-25K. When you guess wrong the correct location will be shown as a pink marker.

You do get a break if you are within 2 km of the city but in the wrong square – you will not get credit for the guess but will get another chance at that level.

After the quiz is over you can click RESTART to retry it without refreshing the page.

UK City Grid 3rd Largest City Challenge

Type 'easy' or 'hard' to begin the quiz. Easy is a 1-degree grid, hard is a 0.5-degree grid. Then, try to name the THIRD LARGEST city in each grid square. To name a city, you must first click on the grid square to make it have a GREEN border. Then, type in the city answer for that square followed by a '.' (a period). You are given a score from 0 to 100 based on your answer's population compared to the 3rd largest city accepted in that square (100 being you named the 3rd largest city). If you guess the largest city it will be based on the ratio of the 3rd largest city's population to the largest.

At the end of the quiz the 3rd largest city will show in each unanswered square, and for those answered the 3rd largest city will be listed next to your score if you didn't answer it.

UK Grid Path Challenge – All Cities

Choose a level by typing ‘beg’, ‘int’, ‘adv’, or ‘exp’ – beg level is 1 degree squares, int 0.5 degrees, adv 0.25 degree, and exp 0.1 degrees. Then, name any UK 1K+ city to start with by entering it (cities with the same name will choose the largest city of that name first).

UK Grid Top 5 Challenge

Type 'easy' or 'hard' to begin the quiz. Easy is a 2-degree grid, hard is a 1-degree grid. Then, try to name the largest UK 1K+ cities in each square IN ORDER.
