Choose any 10K+ European city, then continue naming 10K+ cities which are within 100km of any previously named city. Naming notes: many places have similar names. For example, “Brest” is not unique. To choose Brest, France, simply type “brestfr”, using the first two letters of the country name, or ‘uk’ for the UK (same as for Ukraine). Also, some answers require typing in other answers you may not want to guess. In this case, if you want to answer “Hamburg”, simply type it..”Ham, Belgium” will not be chosen. The object of this quiz is to pick a Europe 100K+ city to start, then name successive 100K+ European cities such that the next city's first letter is the last letter of the current city and the next city is as close to the current city as possible. Europe 10K+ City Shrinking Coverage Challenge

You begin with a radius of 500km. Enter Europe 10K+ city names and all 10K+ European cities within that radius will fill in, HOWEVER each time you use a circle the radius will shrink by 5%. Try to cover as many cities as possible as the circles get smaller. Time is not part of the score on this quiz.

Notes for this quiz: answering a city that has the same name in multiple locations will reduce the circle 5% in radius for each unique city that matches, so if you enter 'Brest' - it will fill one of the 2 with whatever radius you are at, then shrink it 5% and fill the other, and again shrink it 5% more until you make your next guess. So it may not be wise to use a common city name. Also, to enter a city such as 'Moscow' without entering 'Mos' (a city in Spain) you can simply type for example "xmoscow" then delete the x, thereby preventing you from typing 'mos' - there are a handful of cities like this.

Europe 10K+ Expanding Circle Population Challenge – Your Location

First enter a level by typing '5M', '2.5M', '1M', or '500K' - you begin with that population figure (shown by 'Population Remaining'...the bigger the number the easier the quiz). The quiz will center in on your location - you must have your browser's location figure on. A pink marker will be placed at this location.

The object of this quiz is to accumulate 'Population Gotten' by typing in 10K+ Europe cities (see naming note below) moving outward from your marker without skipping cities. Any 10K+ city skipped will count against your Population Remaining. Any 10K+ city guessed correctly counts toward your Population Gotten. Population Gotten is your score for this quiz, this is the number you want to have as high as possible - it is the sum of the population of all your guesses.

Europe 20,000 Km Challenge

You have 15 min or 20K km to travel Europe trying to total the highest total population of 10K+ cities visited. Cyprus, Iceland and Azores not included. How to play: Enter any 10K+ Euro city to begin. A marker will be placed there. Next, enter a (hopefully) nearby 10K+ city. The Google Maps route and next city will be displayed, and the population counter will accumulate. Continue ‘visiting’ more cities trying to get the highest population before reaching 20,000 km. Once you enter a city that pushes the total distance over 20,000 km, the game will end. NAMING NOTES – Some cities have the same names or must be entered to enter a longer city name…enter the city name followed by the FIRST TWO LETTERS of the country name (i.e. ‘brestfr’ or ‘london.’ (due to Londonderry)). Therefore if a city isn’t working add the country’s first 2 letters (use “UN” for United Kingdom) to the end of it, as it has one of these conflicts. ALSO some countries have multiple cities of the same name – to answer these use the city, then first two letters of the country, then a number, starting with “1” for the most populous city of that name in that country…i.e. “newportun1” is the largest Newport in the UK, whereas “newportun2” is the 2nd largest.

Russia Grid Path Challenge – All Cities

Choose any 1K+ UK city (see naming notes below), then continue naming 1K+ UK cities which are within 25km of any previously named city, trying to accumulate the most total cities covered. If you name a city outside a blue circle, the quiz will end.

You can't go from Great Britain to Northern Ireland or vice versa in this quiz so I don't recommend bothering with Northern Ireland :)

NAMING NOTES: because of the number of similarly named UK cities you must end each city with a '.' - i.e. 'london.' or 'liverpool.' - also, there are about 370 names which match exactly with other city names (for example, there are 5 'Sutton' cities). To choose the largest of these type 'sutton1.' with the 1 for its rank, and the period at the end as well. So be careful that you know which rank the city you want chosen is (usually it will be the largest). Sorry, just don't know another way around this, often the cities are in the same country of the UK so can't differentiate using that either. UK 1K+ City Name Link Challenge

The object of this quiz is to pick a city to start, then name successive UK 1K+ cities such that the next city's first letter is the last letter of the current city and the next city is as close to the current city as possible. You MUST enter a '.' (period) at the end of the city name to submit it. Cities must be typed out in full, so 'Newcastle upon Tyne.' for Newcastle, and so on.

For example, you start with 'Birmingham' - you are now trying to name a city starting with 'M' (the last letter of 'Birmingham') which is closest to Birmingham. If you answer 'Manchester.' - now you are trying to name the closest city to Manchester which starts with a 'R' and so on.

The quiz ends at the 25th city from the starting one. You get 100 points for naming the closest city on each step, and they decline based on the distance your city was from the closest. You get 15 minutes to complete the quiz.

UK 1K+ City Population Coverage

First choose a level by typing 'beg', 'int', 'adv' or 'exp' - beginner is 2,500,000, intermediate is 1,000,000, advanced is 250,000 and expert 100,000. Then, begin naming cities. UK 2,000 Km Challenge

You have 15 min or 2,000 km to travel the UK trying to total the highest total population of 1K+ cities visited. How to play: Enter any 1K+ UK city to begin (see NAMING NOTES below). A marker will be placed there. Next, enter a (hopefully) nearby 1K+ city. The Google Maps route and next city will be displayed, and the population counter will accumulate. Continue ‘visiting’ more cities trying to get the highest population before reaching 2,000 km. Once you enter a city that pushes the total distance over 2,000 km, the game will end.

NAMING NOTES – due to many UK cities having similar names, you must add a '.' at the end of each entry, i.e. 'london.' or 'leeds.' - also some UK cities have similar names - i.e. there are 5 Suttons - to choose the correct one (usually the largest) type 'sutton1.' - the '1' refers to the rank among the Sutton in terms of population, and you still need the period at the end. So if an answer isn't taking you may have to add a number (usually a '1') before the period as there are other places with the same name.

UK Circle Radius Population Challenge

The object of this quiz is to adjust each circle's radius so it contains the target population shown at the right. When you click Start you will be shown a marker on a random UK output area (there are over 200K output areas - also called Data Zones in Scotland and N Ireland - across the UK, the smallest census tabulation area). Also you will see an adjustable circle of radius 100 km to start. UK Cities Grid Identifier Challenge

The object of this quiz is to double-click the grid square where cities are located (the centroid of the city is used). When you begin you will have a grid randomly placed with size 2 degrees latitude by 2 degrees longitude. You will be told which city to locate - simply double-click on that city's grid square and you will move on to the next city. Each time you go to a new city the squares are randomly redrawn and with a size 10% smaller. The first 10 cities will be 100K+, the next 10 50-100K, next 10 25-50K and the balance (until you run out of time or guess wrong) will be 10-25K. When you guess wrong the correct location will be shown as a pink marker.

You do get a break if you are within 2 km of the city but in the wrong square – you will not get credit for the guess but will get another chance at that level.

UK Grid Path Challenge – All Cities

Choose a level by typing ‘beg’, ‘int’, ‘adv’, or ‘exp’ – beg level is 1 degree squares, int 0.5 degrees, adv 0.25 degree, and exp 0.1 degrees. Then, name any UK 1K+ city to start with by entering it (cities with the same name will choose the largest city of that name first). The grid square you are starting in will turn yellow - you now must name any city in any one of the adjacent grid squares (not including diagonal) - so any grid square directly north, south, east or west of the yellow one. Naming a city in one of these squares will turn your original square red and the current newly named city square yellow - continue in the same way trying to make a path of as many squares as you can. You are not allowed to return to a red square, and if you get 'boxed in' with no squares left to complete the quiz will also end.

Be aware that as you name cities it will answer the largest city first, so if you are trying to answer a city in a square to the east but a larger city of that name occurs a square to the north, the north one will be answered.

Obviously, due to the layout and separation of squares it will be impossible to complete all of them.
