Choose any 5K+ US city (AK & HI not included), then continue naming 5K+ cities which are within 100 miles of any previously named city. Naming notes: many places have similar names. For example, “Jacksonville” is not unique. To choose Jacksonville, FL, simply type “jacksonvillefl”, and so on. Also some answers require typing in other answers you may not want to guess. In this case, if you want to answer “Virginia Beach, VA”, simply type it..”Virginia, MN” will not be chosen. If you want simply “Virginia” type ‘virginia.’ with the period at the end. NOTE that typing in “phoenix” will not answer Phoenix, AZ – so that means either there is another place in another state where you must put “phoenixaz”, or another city starting with “Phoenix”, which is the case in this example – so typing ‘phoenix.’ will get you your answer. Finally, in a couple cases there are multiple places of the same name in a single state. Madison, WI is an example. To choose the largest Madison (typically the one you want), type ‘madisonwi1’ – the rest are ‘madisonwi2’ and so on (need the state too as there are madison’s in other states) – this is quite rare. So basically, if the city isn’t coming up after you type the name, try adding a “.” after, or the state abbreviation, or in rare cases the state abbr plus a number.

Enter a US 100K+ city - all other 100K+ cities within 100 miles will also fill in. Try to fill in all 100K cities in the smallest number of circles. NOTE - a few cities have the same name in different states, to enter these type in the city name followed by state abbreviation (i.e. 'springfieldma'). For Jackson and Wichita you need to enter the name followed by a period, i.e. 'jackson.' to avoid answering these cities for Jacksonville and Wichita Falls. States remaining will display when you have completed 35 states.

You start with a blank map. Double-click on the map to create a circle of 50 miles radius centered on that location. All US cities within 50 miles of that circle will appear and count toward your total cities. The object is to cover as many cities as possible in 50 circles. You can click within an already-created circle as well, however you may have to zoom in slightly so you aren’t clicking on an existing city marker.

Choose a level. Then, enter 5K+ population cities (see NAMING NOTE below) and all 5K+ population cities within that latitude will automatically fill in. AK and HI are not included as you can't complete them with the 48 states.

HOWEVER - for this quiz you can enter any 5K+ city for your first choice, but successive cities must be already within a blue band for you to answer them, so you must 'expand' the blue area in the north and south directions, you can't start a new blue band with a gap away from a currently blue shaded area.

NAMING NOTE: to name cities for this quiz, enter the city name followed by state abbreviation followed by a '.' - i.e. 'newyorkny.' or 'chicagoil.'
