Canada 100 Km Expanding Circles Challenge – Choose City

First choose any Canada city by entering it and choosing it in the drop-down box. Then, name the largest Canada city in each 100 km circle/ring as the rings expand outward from your city of choice. The first circle will include your city of choice as a possible answer if it is the largest city in that area.

When you run out of time or end the quiz, you will see the current ring's correct answer at right (under 'Answer Stats' by your coordinates).

For example, if you choose 'Toronto' - you will be shown a circle of radius 100 km centered at Toronto. Naming the largest city in this circle (Toronto in this case) will cause another 'ring' of radius 100 km to appear outside that circle. You now need to name the largest Canada city in that ring (but not within any previous circles/rings). If a city is not within the next ring of that distance, the ring will keep expanding by that distance until a city falls within it. The object of this quiz is to adjust each circle's radius so it contains the target population shown at the right. When you click Start you will be shown a marker on a random Canada dissemination area (there are over 55K dissemination areas across Canada, the smallest census tabulation area). Also you will see an adjustable circle of radius 100 km to start. Adjust the circle's radius by dragging it until it contains the target number of people shown - this target will be between 10K and 5 million people. Then click submit. You are scored on how close your circle's population is to the target. Circle population is tallied by totaling all output areas within that circle.

Canada Cities Grid Identifier Challenge

The object of this quiz is to double-click the grid square where cities are located (the centroid of the city is used). When you begin you will have a grid randomly placed with size 5 degrees latitude by 5 degrees longitude. You will be told which city to locate - simply double-click on that city's grid square and you will move on to the next city. Each time you go to a new city the squares are randomly redrawn and with a size 10% smaller. The first 10 cities will be 250K+, the next 10 100-250K, next 10 50-100K and the balance (until you run out of time or guess wrong) will be 25-50K. Canada Grid Path Challenge – All Cities

Choose a level by typing ‘beg’, ‘int’, ‘adv’, or ‘exp’ – beg level is 5 degree squares, int 2.5 degrees, adv 1 degree, and exp 0.5 degrees. Then, name any Canada city to start with by entering it (cities with the same name will choose the largest city of that name first). The grid square you are starting in will turn yellow - you now must name any city in any one of the adjacent grid squares (not including diagonal) - so any grid square directly north, south, east or west of the yellow one. Naming a city in one of these squares will turn your original square red and the current newly named city square yellow - continue in the same way trying to make a path of as many squares as you can. You are not allowed to return to a red square, and if you get 'boxed in' with no squares left to complete the quiz will also end.

Be aware that as you name cities it will answer the largest city first, so if you are trying to answer a city in a square to the east but a larger city of that name occurs a square to the north, the north one will be answered.

Canada Grid Top 5 Challenge

Type 'easy' or 'hard' to begin the quiz. Easy is a 10-degree grid, hard is a 5-degree grid. Then, try to name the largest Canada cities in each square IN ORDER. To name a city, you must first click on the grid square to make it have a GREEN border. Then, type in the city answer for that square followed by a '.' (a period).

The squares will start with '0/5' (or maybe fewer cities if less exist in that square). Click on a square and enter the largest city in that square not yet answered (so, the largest city if you have yet to answer a city in that square). You will then have '1/5' and need to click on that square to name the 2nd largest city, and so on until you complete all the cities up to 5 (or less if less exist). Canada Province/Territory Drawing Challenge

You'll be freehand drawing the provinces/territories of Canada. When the quiz loads on the right side you will be told which prov/terr to draw. To begin drawing a prov/terr, click Draw or right-click anywhere in the map to enter drawing mode. Click and drag the mouse to make an outline of the prov/terr. Release the mouse to 'close' the prov/terr and it will appear green. If happy and ready to submit, click submit or double-click the drawn prov/terr. US 100K+ Cities Direction Challenge

The object of this quiz is to name (see NAMING NOTE below) as many US 100K+ cities as possible starting from the position you choose without skipping cities moving in the opposite direction. For example, if you choose 'S' you 'start' at extreme southern US to begin you are aiming to name the most southern US 100K+ city, then the 2nd most southern, and so on as you move north. Naming correct cities increases the population counter - the object is to get the highest total population among all cities you name. However, once you move in a direction you can't name cities already passed by (i.e. covered in the blue shaded region).

NAMING NOTE: You must end each city name with a period - i.e. 'Dallas.' - this prevents naming a city whose name is a partial name of the city you want to answer. If you name a city that has multiple answers, only the closest upcoming one will be answered for you, so you won't name the farther away city from the one you are trying to guess.

You don't start with a ton of time, however there is a 30 second time bonus for naming the next city in order, and a 15 second bonus for naming the 2nd or 3rd next city in order. So if you name well you can accumulate a lot of extra time.

The object of this quiz is to pick a 10K+ US city to start, then name successive 10K+ cities such that the next city's first letter is the last letter of the current city and the next city is as close to the current city as possible. The object of this quiz is to choose the top 4 in the given category for the cities shown in the grid. When you begin you’ll be given 25 different cities plus a category to name the top 4 in, which will display just above the grid. For example, if the category says ‘Top 4 Largest Area’ you are to click on the 4 cities with the largest area. If it says ‘Top 4 Lowest Avg Elevation’ you are to click on the 4 cities whose average elevation is the lowest. The object of this quiz is to pick a 50K+ US city to start, then name successive 50K+ cities such that the next city's first letter is the last letter of the current city and the next city is as close to the current city as possible. The object of this quiz is to pick a city to start, then name successive cities such that the next city's first letter is the last letter of the current city and the next city is as close to the current city as possible. You must name cities in the format 'City, State' with the state abbreviation following the city.

US Expanding Circles Challenge – Your Location

First choose a level by typing '5.', '10', '25' or '50' (need to add the '.' with 5 so you can type 50 without choosing '5') - then name the largest city in the circle/ring of that distance range as the rings expand outward from your location. You need to have your browser's location function working or the quiz will not load.

You MUST have a city within the initial distance you choose for your level - so this quiz will not work if you are not within the US (or at least not within your level's distance of a US city).

When you run out of time or end the quiz, you will see the current ring's correct answer at right (under 'Answer Stats' by your coordinates).

For example, if you choose '10' - you will be shown a circle of radius 10 miles centered at your location. Naming the largest city in this circle will cause another 'ring' of radius 10 to appear outside that circle. Time for you to show what you've really got. You'll be freehand drawing the 48 contiguous states (49 drawings in total, as the upper and lower peninsulas of Michigan are separate in this quiz). US State Drawing Challenge – No Map

Now for the real test. You'll be freehand drawing the states except Hawaii (50 drawings in total, as the upper and lower peninsulas of Michigan are separate in this quiz). However for this quiz everything is blank - no coastlines, only a black canvas for each state.

When the quiz loads on the right side you will be told which state to draw. To begin drawing a state, click Draw or right-click anywhere in the map to enter drawing mode. Click and drag the mouse to make an outline of the state. Release the mouse to 'close' the state and it will appear green. If happy and ready to submit, click Submit or double-click the drawn state. Click Erase or right-click it to erase it and start over. After completing a state you will need to click NEXT STATE above the map to go on to the next one. Your score may take a few moments to calculate for larger states.

You will see a white box when you begin drawing a state. You can zoom in/out and pan to prepare before you start drawing. The farthest north, south, east, and west points of the state you are drawing will touch the top, bottom, right and left sides of the rectangle.

You are only drawing the main portion of each state - do not worry about any disjointed islands, etc.

When you submit a state you are scored on the % of your state which contains the actual state (shown as '% In State') and the % of the actual state contained in your state (shown as '% Of State'). These average out to create your points for that state.

Complete all states or click End Quiz at any time to save your score. You will then see a satellite view of the US with your states in their places. Don't forget to take a screenshot of your beautifully drawn United States!

US State Drawing Challenge Streak

First enter ‘beg’, ‘int’, ‘adv’, or ‘exp’ to begin. Beginner corresponds to 60 points, intermediate to 70 points, advanced to 80 points and expert to 90 points. This is the number of points you will need to score drawing each stateto get to continue on to the next state. The object is to complete as many states as you can.

You'll be freehand drawing the 48 contiguous states (49 drawings in total, as the upper and lower peninsulas of Michigan are separate in this quiz). When you start you will be given a 3x3 grid of US state outlines. Click on the outline for the state shown above the grid. If you click the wrong outline you will have 5 seconds deducted from your time. As the quiz progresses, the grid will get larger. Try to complete as many states in 1 minute as you can.

US State Satellite Zoom Challenge

You will be given Google satellite view zoomed in near the center of 20 different US 5K+ population cities. The view will start being zoomed in fully and zoom out every 5 seconds. Name the state you are in by typing the state abbreviation. The faster you answer, the more points you get. Max of 25 points per location.

US State Triplets Blackout Challenge

Upon clicking START you will be presented with a 5×5 grid of US states.

The object of this quiz is to choose the top 3 in the given category for the states shown in the grid. When you begin you’ll be given 25 different states plus a category to name the top 3 in, which will display just above the grid. For example, if the category says ‘Top 3 Largest Area’ you are to click on the 3 states with the largest area. If it says ‘Top 3 Smallest Max Elevation’ you are to click on the 3 states whose max elevation is the lowest. You can deselect the first or second state you chose on by re-clicking it, but when you choose the 3rd state they will be submitted, removed from the grid, and you will get a score from 0-100 based on how close your set of 3 comes to the optimum set of 3 (which will be shown as a ‘Rank’ on top out of the # of possible sets of 3 for the last choice). When you’ve answered all 8 sets of 3 leaving only 1 state the quiz is over. You get a 100 points bonus for completing the sets making for a total possible score of 2500.

US States Placement Challenge

The object of this quiz is to drag the US states into their correct positions on the map. More northern states will appear at the beginning lined across the top, southern states along the bottom. When you drag on a state you will see that state's name on the right of the map. Double-click the state to 'lock' it in place and you will obtain a score up to 100 based on how close the center of the state is to the actual center coordinates.

A few states with multiple separate land areas such as Hawaii and Michigan will only have their largest portion show up as an outline.

You can end the quiz at any time or double-click on all 50 states to place them to end the quiz as well. Only the largest portion of each state will be shown (if a state has disjointed areas).
