World 100 Km Expanding Circles Any City Challenge – Choose City

First choose any World 50K+ city by entering it and choosing it in the drop-down box. Then, name ANY World 50K+ city in each 100km circle/ring as the rings expand outward from your city of choice. The first circle will include your city of choice as a possible answer.

When you run out of time or end the quiz, you will see the current ring's largest correct answer at right (under 'Answer Stats' by your coordinates).

For example, if you choose 'Paris, France' - you will be shown a circle of radius 100km centered at Paris. Naming any 50K+ city in this circle (including Paris) will cause another 'ring' of radius 100km to appear outside that circle. You now need to name the any World 50K+ city in that ring (but not within any previous circles/rings). If a city is not within the next ring of that distance, the ring will keep expanding by that distance until a city falls within it. So if a city doesn't fall within 200-300km, it will expand to be a 200-400km ring, then 200-500km and so on until a qualifying city is found within the ring.

World 100 Km Expanding Circles Any City Distance Challenge – Choose City

First choose any World 50K+ city by entering it and choosing it in the drop-down box. Then, name any World 50K+ city in each 100 km circle/ring as the rings expand outward from your city of choice - NOTE - you must enter a period '.' at the end of the city to submit it. The first circle will include your city of choice as guessed. The object in this quiz is to guess the city in the next ring which is as close to the previous city as possible. The closest city will get you 100 points, the farthest away answer, 0 points.

When you run out of time or end the quiz, you will see the current ring's closest correct answer at right.

For example, if you choose ‘Paris, France’ – you will be shown a circle of radius 100 km centered at Paris and Paris will be selected. You will also see a ring of radius 100 km outside that circle. Naming a city in this ring will cause another ‘ring’ of radius 100 km to appear outside that ring and you will get 0-100 points, depending how close to Paris your city was. If a city is not within the next ring of that distance, the ring will keep expanding by that distance until a city falls within it. So if a city doesn’t fall within 100-200 kms, it will expand to be a 100-300 km ring, then 100-400 km and so on until a qualifying city is found within the ring.

First choose any World 50K+ city by entering it and choosing it in the drop-down box. Then, name the largest World 50K+ city in each 100km circle/ring as the rings expand outward from your city of choice. The first circle will include your city of choice as a possible answer if it is the largest 50K+ city in that area.

When you run out of time or end the quiz, you will see the current ring's correct answer at right (under 'Answer Stats' by your coordinates).

For example, if you choose 'Paris, France' - you will be shown a circle of radius 100km centered at Paris. Naming the largest city in this circle (Paris in this case) will cause another 'ring' of radius 100km to appear outside that circle. World 100 Km Expanding Circles Largest City Challenge – Choose City

First choose any World 50K+ pop city by entering it and choosing it in the drop-down box. Then, name any World 50K+ city in each 100 km circle/ring as the rings expand outward from your city of choice, trying to name LARGEST city in each circle. The first circle will include your city of choice as a possible answer.

PLEASE NOTE - You must type a '.' (period) after each city to submit it to prevent answering another city with a name you would be have to type to get your answer. If multiple cities have the name you submitted, only the largest one will be counted.

You accumulate points based on the population of the city you named in relation to the largest city in the circle. Naming the largest city will get you 100 points. A smaller city’s point total will be the ratio of its population to the largest, so if you name a city of 75K people and the largest city has 100K, you get 75 points.

When you run out of time or end the quiz, you will see the current ring’s largest correct answer at right (under ‘Answer Stats’ by your coordinates).

For example, if you choose ‘Paris’ – you will be shown a circle of radius 100 km centered at Paris. Naming any city in this circle (including Paris) will cause another ‘ring’ of radius 100 km to appear outside that circle, however - you will want to try naming the LARGEST city you can to get more points (Paris will be 100 points). After completing that circle, you now need to name any 50K+ World city in the new ring (but not within any previous circles/rings), again trying to name as large a city as possible. If a city is not within the next ring of that distance, the ring will keep expanding by that distance until a city falls within it. So if a city doesn’t fall within 100-200 km, it will expand to be a 100-300 km ring, then 300-400 km and so on until a qualifying city is found within the ring.

1725

World 100 Km Expanding Circles Small City Challenge – Choose City

First choose any World 50K+ pop city by entering it and choosing it in the drop-down box. Then, name any World 50K+ city in each 100 km circle/ring as the rings expand outward from your city of choice, trying to name SMALLER cities instead of the easier, larger cities. The first circle will include your city of choice as a possible answer.

PLEASE NOTE - You must type a '.' (period) after each city to submit it to prevent answering another city with a name you would be have to type to get your answer. If multiple cities have the name you submitted, only the smallest one will be counted.

You accumulate points based on the population of the city you named according to the following scale:
50K - 99,999 - 10 pts
100K - 149,999 - 8 pts
150K - 249,999 - 6 pts
250K - 499,999 - 4 pts
500K - 749,999 - 3 pts
750K - 999,999 - 2 pts
1M+ - 1 pt

When you run out of time or end the quiz, you will see the current ring’s smallest correct answer at right (under ‘Answer Stats’ by your coordinates).

For example, if you choose ‘Paris’ – you will be shown a circle of radius 100 km centered at Paris. Naming any city in this circle (including Paris) will cause another ‘ring’ of radius 100 km to appear outside that circle, however - you will want to try naming the SMALLEST city you can to get more points (Paris will only yield 1 point). After completing that circle, you now need to name any 50K+ World city in the new ring (but not within any previous circles/rings), again trying to name as small a city as possible. If a city is not within the next ring of that distance, the ring will keep expanding by that distance until a city falls within it. So if a city doesn’t fall within 100-200 km, it will expand to be a 100-300 km ring, then 300-400 km and so on until a qualifying city is found within the ring.

World 100K+ Cities Proximity Blackout

The object of this quiz is to name close pairs of 100K+ cities for the two countries represented in each cell. For example, if the top column has 'US' and the cell shows 'Brazil' you are trying to name the pair of 100K+ population cities (one in US and one in Brazil) which are the closest. Enter guesses by typing the city names in either order followed by a '.' to submit the answer. Columns and cells are randomly chosen each time. Larger countries will have a higher chance of being chosen however. Dependent territories are included as part of their country.

Example: to enter 'Miami' and 'Brasilia' for the US-Brazil combo, type 'miamibrasilia.' or 'brasiliamiami.' with the period at the end.

PLEASE NOTE: You may need to wait a moment for the score to appear in the cell.

The pair of cities with the shortest distance gets a score of 100 points and the scores will decrease down to 0 for the pair of cities farthest apart. Scores are based on how close you are in that range to the closest distance.

Your final score is the average of your total points over the 25 squares. Incomplete squares count as 0.

World 1M+ Agglomerations Name Link Challenge

The object of this quiz is to pick a world 1M+ agglomeration to start, then name successive 1M+ agglomerations such that the next agglo's first letter is the last letter of the current agglo and the next agglo is as close to the current agglo as possible. On this quiz alternates are generally accepted, however only the main (usually official) name is counted as it relates to naming the next agglo. Agglomerations of the same name will answer the closest one first. NOTE: You must type a '.' (period) after the agglo name to submit it. The same agglo cannot be used twice in this quiz.

For example, you start with 'Paris' - you are now trying to name a city starting with 'S' (the last letter of 'Paris') which is closest to Paris. If you answer 'Sevilla' - now you are trying to name the closest 1M+ agglo to Sevilla which starts with a 'A' and so on.

The quiz ends at the 25th agglo from the starting one. You get 100 points for naming the closest agglo on each step, and they decline based on the distance your agglo was from the closest. You get 15 minutes to complete the quiz.

420

World 1M+ Agglos Direction Challenge

The object of this quiz is to name (see NAMING NOTE below) as many World 1M+ agglomerations as possible starting from the position you choose without skipping agglos moving in the opposite direction. For example, if you choose 'S' you 'start' at the South Pole to begin and you are aiming to name the most southern World 1M+ agglo, then the 2nd most southern, and so on as you move north. Naming correct agglos increases the population counter - the object is to get the highest total population among all agglos you name. However, once you move in a direction you can't name agglos already passed by (i.e. covered in the blue shaded region).

NAMING NOTE: You must end each agglo name with a period - i.e. 'Tokyo.' - this prevents naming an agglo whose name is a partial name of the agglo you want to answer. If you name an agglo that has multiple answers, only the closest upcoming one will be answered for you, so you won't name the farther away agglo from the one you are trying to guess.

You don't start with a ton of time, however there is a 30 second time bonus for naming the next agglo in order, and a 15 second bonus for naming the 2nd or 3rd next one in order. So if you name well you can accumulate a lot of extra time.

hugequiz Premium members will see up to the largest 25 agglos missed when the quiz ends - they will be pink markers you can mouseover to see agglo details.

World 1M+ City Pairs Proximity Blackout

Upon clicking START you will be presented with a 5×5 table of World 1M+ population cities. The object of the quiz is to pair up cities two at a time which have the shortest distance between them.

Single click on a city’s text and it will highlight red. To choose the other city of the pair click another city’s text. Also, you can re-click on the first city to deselect it. The distance between them will be shown and you will get up to 100 points. 100 points corresponds to the closest pair of cities, 0 points to the farthest apart pair – scores decrease based on the distance of your two cities related to the possible range of distances. Those two cities will then be replaced with their score and you will now choose the closest pair of cities from the remaining 23 cities which have been adjusted to have 100 and 0 corresponding to the closest/farthest pairs among those 23, and so on until you run out of time or complete 12 pairs of cities leaving one left.

You get a 100 point bonus for completing all 12 pairs within 5 minutes, making for a total possible point total of 2500.

You will only get a maximum of 2 cities in the same country.

World 200 Km Expanding Circles Any City Distance Challenge – Choose City

First choose any World 50K+ city by entering it and choosing it in the drop-down box. Then, name any World 50K+ city in each 200 km circle/ring as the rings expand outward from your city of choice - NOTE - you must enter a period '.' at the end of the city to submit it.

For example, if you choose ‘Paris, France’ – you will be shown a circle of radius 200 km centered at Paris and Paris will be selected. You will also see a ring of radius 200 km outside that circle. Naming a city in this ring will cause another ‘ring’ of radius 200 km to appear outside that ring and you will get 0-100 points, depending how close to Paris your city was. If a city is not within the next ring of that distance, the ring will keep expanding by that distance until a city falls within it. So if a city doesn’t fall within 200-400 kms, it will expand to be a 200-600 km ring, then 200-800 km and so on until a qualifying city is found within the ring.

World 200 Km Expanding Circles Challenge – Choose City

First choose any World 50K+ city by entering it and choosing it in the drop-down box. Then, name the largest World 50K+ city in each 200km circle/ring as the rings expand outward from your city of choice. The first circle will include your city of choice as a possible answer if it is the largest 50K+ city in that area.

When you run out of time or end the quiz, you will see the current ring's correct answer at right (under 'Answer Stats' by your coordinates).

For example, if you choose 'Paris, France' - you will be shown a circle of radius 200km centered at Paris. Naming the largest city in this circle (Paris in this case) will cause another 'ring' of radius 200km to appear outside that circle. You now need to name the largest World 50K+ city in that ring (but not within any previous circles/rings). If a city is not within the next ring of that distance, the ring will keep expanding by that distance until a city falls within it. So if a city doesn't fall within 200-400km, it will expand to be a 200-600km ring, then 200-800km and so on until a qualifying city is found within the ring.

When you run out of time or end the quiz, you will see the current ring's largest correct answer at right (under 'Answer Stats' by your coordinates).

For example, if you choose 'Paris, France' - you will be shown a circle of radius 200km centered at Paris. Naming the 3 largest cities in this circle (such as Paris) will cause them to appear as green markers and when all 3 are named another 'ring' of radius 200km to appear outside that circle. You now need to name the 3 largest World 50K+ cities in that ring (but not within any previous circles/rings). If no city qualifies within the next ring of that distance, the ring will keep expanding by that distance until at least one city falls within it. So if a city doesn't fall within 200-400km, it will expand to be a 200-600km ring, then 200-800km and so on until at least one qualifying city is found within the ring.

World 500 Km 50-Circle Coverage Challenge

You start with a blank map. Double-click on the map to create a circle of 500km radius centered on that location. All World 50K+ cities within that circle will appear and count toward your total cities. The object is to cover as many cities as possible in 50 circles. You can click within an already-created circle as well, however you may have to zoom in slightly so you aren't clicking on an existing city marker.

5783

World 500 Km Coverage Challenge

Choose any 50K+ World city, then continue naming 50K+ cities which are within 500 km of any previously named city. Please note - North/South America and the rest of the world are considered separate sections on this quiz. The game will not end if you haven't begun one of them and then 'jump' over to it to begin working on it. So you get one free city to choose outside of the 500km distance if you want to start working on the section you haven't started. But once you have started both NA/SA and Rest of World, you cannot guess a city outside a 500km circle or the quiz will end.

Naming notes: many places have similar names. For example, “Brest” is not unique. To choose Brest, France, simply type “brestfr”, using the first two letters of the country name...another example is "londonun". Also, some answers require typing in other answers you may not want to guess. In this case, if you want to answer “Hamburg”, simply type it..”Ham, Belgium” will not be chosen. If you want simply “Ham” type ‘ham.’ with the period at the end. One other issue is multiple cities in the US with the same name, for these type in the state abbreviation and 'us' at the end - i.e. 'jacksonvilleflus' - if a place name outside the US has multiple locations in a country you can use 'fuzhouch1', 'fuzhouch2' etc for the Fuzhou's in China.

World 500 Km Expanding Circles 2nd Largest City Challenge – Choose City

First choose any World 50K+ pop city by entering it and choosing it in the drop-down box. Then, name any World 50K+ city in each 500 km circle/ring as the rings expand outward from your city of choice, trying to name SECOND LARGEST city in each circle. The first circle will include your city of choice as a possible answer.

PLEASE NOTE - You must type a '.' (period) after each city to submit it to prevent answering another city with a name you would be have to type to get your answer. If multiple cities have the name you submitted, only the largest one will be counted.

You accumulate points based on the population of the city you named in relation to the second largest city in the circle. A smaller city’s point total will be the ratio of its population to the largest, so if you name a city of 75K people and the largest city has 100K, you get 75 points. Naming the largest city will get you points based on the ratio of the 2nd largest city's population to the largest city's.

When you run out of time or end the quiz, you will see the current ring’s 2nd largest city at right (under ‘Answer Stats’ by your coordinates).

For example, if you choose ‘Paris’ – you will be shown a circle of radius 500 km centered at Paris. Naming any city in this circle (including Paris) will cause another ‘ring’ of radius 500 km to appear outside that circle, however - you will want to try naming the SECOND LARGEST city you can to get more points. After completing that circle, you now need to name any 50K+ World city in the new ring (but not within any previous circles/rings), again trying to name the 2nd largest city. If there are not two cities within the next ring of that distance, the ring will keep expanding by that distance until two cities fall within it.

World 50K+ City Name Link Challenge

The object of this quiz is to pick a city to start, then name successive cities such that the next city's first letter is the last letter of the current city and the next city is as close to the current city as possible. On this quiz alternates are generally accepted, however only the main (usually official) name is counted as it relates to naming the next city. Cities of the same name will answer the closest city first. NOTE: You must type a '.' (period) after the city to submit it. Cities must be a minimum of 50k population. The same city cannot be used twice in this quiz.

For example, you start with 'Paris' - you are now trying to name a city starting with 'S' (the last letter of 'Paris') which is closest to Paris. If you answer 'Strasbourg' - now you are trying to name the closest city to Strasbourg which starts with a 'G' and so on.

The quiz ends at the 25th city from the starting one. You get 100 points for naming the closest city on each step, and they decline based on the distance your city was from the closest. You get 15 minutes to complete the quiz.

World 50K+ City Shrinking Coverage Challenge

You begin with a radius of 1500km. Enter World 50K+ city names and all 50K+ World cities within that radius will fill in, HOWEVER each time you use a circle the radius will shrink by 5%. Try to cover as many cities as possible as the circles get smaller. Time is not part of the score on this quiz.

hugequiz Premium members will see the 25 largest missed cities at the end of the quiz as large, purple markers.

Notes for this quiz: answering a city that has the same name in multiple locations will reduce the circle 5% in radius for each unique city that matches, so if you enter 'Brest' - it will fill one of the 2 with whatever radius you are at, then shrink it 5% and fill the other, and again shrink it 5% more until you make your next guess. So it may not be wise to use a common city name. Also, to enter a city such as 'Mexico City' without entering 'Mexico' (a city in Philippines) you can simply type for example "xmexicocity" then delete the x, thereby preventing you from typing 'mexico' - there are a handful of cities like this.

3729

World 50K+ Closest Cities To Your Location In Order – Choose Number

Begin by entering a number of cities - '50', '100', '250' or '5h' - then name the closest world cities of 50K+ population to your geographic location (as determined by your browser's location function) IN ORDER - meaning you have to name the closest first, then the 2nd closest, etc. Your location will show up as a bright purple marker, and the location you need to name (the closest unnamed one) will show up as a larger marker color-coded according to its population.

To use this quiz you will have to choose 'Allow' if your browser asks to share your current location - you also may have to restart the quiz after choosing this. If your browser does not allow getting your location the quiz will not load.

528

World 50K+ Closest Coverage

First choose a difficulty by typing ‘beg’, ‘int’, ‘adv, or ‘exp’ – Beginner is 100 cities, Intermediate 50 cities, Advanced 25 cities, and Expert 10 cities. Then, enter 50K+ world cities and the closest N 50K+ cities based on the difficulty you chose will fill in.

hugequiz Premium members will see the 25 largest missed cities at the end of the quiz as large, purple markers.

Premium members can now also play a 3-hour time limit 'custom' coverage quiz of any number of cities from 5 to 200, simply enter the number of cities followed by a '.' instead of choosing from one of the four levels, i.e. '150.' Quiz score is not recorded for the custom coverage option.

10903

World 50K+ Expanding Circle Population Challenge – Your Location

First enter a level by typing '25M', '10M', '5M', or '1M' - you begin with that population figure (shown by 'Population Remaining'...the bigger the number the easier the quiz). The quiz will center in on your location - you must have your browser's location figure on. A pink marker will be placed at this location.

The object of this quiz is to accumulate 'Population Gotten' by typing in world 50K+ cities (see naming note below) moving outward from your marker without skipping cities. Any 50K+ city skipped will count against your Population Remaining. Any 50K+ city guessed correctly counts toward your Population Gotten. Population Gotten is your score for this quiz, this is the number you want to have as high as possible - it is the sum of the population of all your guesses.

Naming Note: You must add a '.' at the end of each city name for it to take - this is to prevent typing in another city name which is the first few letters of the city you wanted to type. There are a good number of these so to make it easiest I am simply requiring a '.' after each name you enter.

There are no time bonuses on this quiz.

A circle will be drawn going out to your last guess and showing that guess as a green marker and any missed cities that were closer as a red marker. All members can mouseover the green markers to see what their name, population and rank in terms of closeness to your location (i.e. #10 is 10th closest 50K+ city). hugequiz Premium members can hover over the red markers as well to see the missed cities and their info.

HOWEVER - for this quiz you can enter any 50K+ city for your first choice, but successive cities must be already within a blue band for you to answer them, so you must 'expand' the blue area in the north and south directions, you can't start a new blue band with a gap away from a currently blue shaded area.

World 50K+ Longitude Coverage Challenge

First choose a difficulty by typing 'beg', 'int', 'adv, or 'exp' - Beginner is 5 degrees longitude, Intermediate 2.5 degrees, Advanced 1 degrees, and Expert 0.5 degrees. Then, enter 50K+ population cities and all 50K+ population cities within that longitude will automatically fill in. PLEASE NOTE: Your first two selections must be one in each of the two separate regions - the Americas and Eurasia/Africa/Oceania. So if your first guess is 'New York' that covers the Americas, and your second guess must be a city in the Eurasia/Africa/Oceania section. Then you will have two bands you can expand independently as you play the quiz.

HOWEVER - for this quiz you can enter any 50K+ city for your first choice, but successive cities must be already within a blue band for you to answer them, so you must 'expand' the blue area in the east and west directions, you can't start a new blue band with a gap away from a currently blue shaded area.

All cities of 50K+ population starting with the city you chose and moving outward will begin filling in until you've hit a total population equal to or greater than your chosen level's threshold. For example, if you choose 'int' - the threshold is 10 million. If you choose 'paris', then Paris will fill in and because its population is under 10 million, successive cities moving outward from Paris will fill in until the total population reaches at least 10 million. If you chose Tokyo, only it would fill in as its population already meets your threshold.

Then, enter 50K+ population cities and all 50K+ population cities within a radius based on the population of the city you guessed will fill in. When you have at least 160 countries, the countries remaining will be shown. In other words, a large city will have a bit larger radius to cover other cities than a smaller city would.

A higher difficulty level means smaller circles, but still in the same size proportion to each other based on populations.

There is also the option to play a 3-hour (basically untimed) version of each level. Simply enter a 'u' before a level choice to play a 3-hour version, for example 'ubeg' or 'uadv' - your score will not be saved for these.

'Top' categories on bottom right refer to the population of the capital city. Red markers are also added for Oceania/Caribbean countries whose outlines are difficult to see - the markers are near the country centroids, not necessarily right where the capital is. You do only start with 5 minutes, but there are time bonuses. Quiz may take a few moments to load.

7238

World Capitals Name Link Challenge

The object of this quiz is to pick a world country capital to start, then name successive captials such that the next capital's first letter is the last letter of the current capital and the next capital is as close to the current capital as possible. NOTE: You must type a '.' (period) after the capital name to submit it. The same capital cannot be used twice in this quiz.

For example, you start with 'Paris' - you are now trying to name a capital city starting with 'S' (the last letter of 'Paris') which is closest to Paris. If you answer 'Sofia' - now you are trying to name the closest capital to Sofia which starts with a 'A' and so on.

The quiz ends at the 25th capital from the starting one. You get 100 points for naming the closest capital on each step, and they decline based on the distance your capital was from the closest. You get 15 minutes to complete the quiz.

1214

World Capitals North To South In Order

Name the world capitals in order starting with the furthest north and moving south. For countries with multiple capitals use the administrative one. You start with 3 minutes (or half that for non-Premium members) but get 10 seconds per capital guessed.

World Capitals Triplets Blackout Challenge

Upon clicking START you will be presented with a 5×5 grid of 25 of the capital cities of World countries.

The object of this quiz is to choose the top 3 in the given category for the capitals shown in the grid. When you begin you’ll be given 25 different capitals plus a category to name the top 3 in, which will display just above the grid. For example, if the category says ‘Top 3 Largest Population’ you are to click on the 3 capitals with the largest population. If it says ‘Top 3 Lowest Population Density’ you are to click on the 3 whose population density is the lowest. You can deselect the first or second capital you chose on by re-clicking it, but when you choose the 3rd capital they will be submitted, removed from the grid, and you will get a score from 0-100 based on how close your set of 3 comes to the optimum set of 3 (which will be shown as a ‘Rank’ on top out of the # of possible sets of 3 for the last choice). When you’ve answered all 8 sets of 3 leaving only 1 capital the quiz is over. You get a 100 points bonus for completing the sets making for a total possible score of 2500.

Note: I set the Vatican's Cost Of Living to the same as Rome's, as there is no data for it.

1339

World Circle Max Population Challenge

Upon clicking START you will be shown 4 circles, one at a time, with increasing radii: 500, 1000, 2500, and 5000 km. The object is to move the circle to the location such that it covers the most amount of people, based on World population density data. You are scored based on how many people you cover compared to the maximum possible (score is based on the ratio of people in your circle compared to max possible - score is not an exact ratio but falls faster than that).

230

World Circle Population Guess Challenge

You will be shown 10 different circles of radius 250-2000 km. Using the slider (or manually typing into the box below the slider), guess the population contained within each circle then click SUBMIT for each one. 310

World Circle Population Selection Challenge

The object of this quiz is to click on the circle containing the largest population. When you begin you'll be shown 2 circles with radii between 100 and 2500 km on the map which do not intersect. Click on the one with the larger population within it (based world population density info) then 'Submit' - if you are correct you'll move on. One incorrect round and the quiz is over. Every 5 rounds the number of circles on the map will increase by 1. Try to build the longest streak of correct circles. Circles displayed will always be non-intersecting.

3992

World Circle Radius Population Challenge

The object of this quiz is to adjust each circle's radius so it contains the target population shown at the right. When you click Start you will be shown a marker on a random populated world grid square (there are over 800K 10x10 km grid squares used for the data, courtesy of https://human-settlement.emergency.copernicus.eu/index.php). Also you will see an adjustable circle of radius 500 km to start. Adjust the circle's radius by dragging it until it contains the target number of people shown - this target will be between 2.5 and 250 million people. Then click submit. You are scored on how close your circle's population is to the target.

894

World Circle Radius Population Split Challenge

The object of this quiz is to adjust each circle's diameter so it splits the circle's population as evenly as possible. When you click Start you will be shown a marker on a random world location. Also you will see an circle between 500 and 2500 km radius. Adjust the diameter by rotating it using the endpoints, trying to split the halves into equal populations. Then click submit. You are scored on how close you have split the circle into 50% population in each half.

7

World Cities Grid Identifier Challenge

The object of this quiz is to double-click the grid square where cities are located (the centroid of the city is used). When you begin you will have a grid randomly placed with size 15 degrees latitude by 15 degrees longitude. You will be told which city to locate – simply double-click on that city’s grid square and you will move on to the next city. Each time you go to a new city the squares are randomly redrawn and with a size 10% smaller. The first 10 cities will be 5M+, the next 10 2.5-5M, next 10 1-2.5M and the balance (until you run out of time or guess wrong) will be 500K-1M. When you guess wrong the correct location will be shown as a pink marker.

You will not get more than one city per country in the first 3 groupings of 10, however for the final balance (when the cities are 500K-1M) there is no limit to how many cities in one country you will get.

You do get a break if you are within 2 km of the city but in the wrong square – you will not get credit for the guess but will get another chance at that level.

After the quiz is over you can click RESTART to retry it without refreshing the page.

16514

World Cities Locator Streak Challenge

The object of this quiz is to locate as many of the top World cities in a row you can without going over the maximum allowable distance away. The max distance allowed is 25 km for 1M+ cities and 10 km otherwise. Double-click to locate each city in order of population. If you are under the max distance allowed you will move on to the next city. When you double-click farther away than the max distance allowed the quiz will end.

PLEASE NOTE - To identify a city, click on the 'downtown' area to avoid clicking on a suburb or outer edge of the city. The distance will generally be measured from close to the center of a city's 'downtown.'

You begin with 10 minutes (or 5 for non-Premium members) and get 10 seconds added every time you double-click to locate a city.

For example, if you are looking at a cell with 'Asia' in its row, and 'Starts With A' in the column, that cell can be filled in with 'Armenia.' Many shortened names of countries are accepted, such as DRC, CAR, UAE, UK, US, etc. Answering a country which doesn't fit in any remaining unanswered cell will end the quiz.

Occasionally a cell may not have a qualifying answer, in which case it will appear blank and be a gimme. After completing the quiz you can simply click RESTART to play again.

Please note that 'star on flag' does not include a representation of the Sun.

Scoring is based on 100 points for each correct (or blank) square, and 5 points are subtracted for every second used on the quiz. So you are rewarded for getting squares quickly, however be careful as not to name a country which doesn't qualify for an open cell.

NAMING NOTE: You must type a '.' (period) after a country name or abbreviation to submit it, to prevent entering a country you don't want to (i.e. Guinea when you want to enter Guinea Bissau). For country naming purposes, the following names are used: Cote d'Ivoire, Timor-Leste.

This quiz is only available to Premium members.

52711

World Countries Blackout Challenge

The object of this game is to fill in the grid (see NAMING NOTE below) with the most qualified country for each cell. When you begin you'll be given a grid with column titles and a category for each row in the cells. You are to name a country which fits the column category but also has the 'most' of the row category. For example, if the column has 'Star On Flag' and the row is 'Easternmost Capital' you are trying to name the country whose capital is farthest east and has a star on its flag. For a column with '50 Coldest' and 'Smallest Population' you are trying to name the country with the smallest population that is among the 50 coldest. Populations and areas included dependent territories.

Upon naming a country, it will be placed HIGHEST scoring position in the for which that country qualifies (not necessarily the grid square you might be trying to get). You can then rename the same country and if it qualifies for another square the next highest score for it will fill in.

Scores are based on relative values of the answers - so answering the US for a largest population square that China also qualifies doesn't make US be close to 100, but less than 25 as China's population is over 4 times larger. The only time when this isn't true is when you are choosing the smallest value of something instead of largest, in which case it's based on ranking.

NAMING NOTE: To answer a country simply type it in with a '.' (period) at the end, for example 'us.' or 'china.' - some country abbreviations are accepted.

Try to accumulate the highest point total you can (max 100 for each square) before time runs out.

hugequiz Premium members will see the highest-ranking country for each unanswered square when the quiz is over.

World Country 5-Somes Blackout Challenge

Upon clicking START you will be presented with a 7x7 grid of world countries.

The object of this quiz is to choose the top 5 in the given category for the countries shown in the grid. When you begin you'll be given 25 different countries plus a category to name the top 5 in, which will display just above the grid. For example, if the category says 'Top 5 Largest Area' you are to click on the 5 countries with the largest area. If it says 'Top 5 Smallest Max Elevation' you are to click on the 5 countries whose max elevation is the lowest. You can deselect the first or second country you chose on by re-clicking it, but when you choose the 5th country they will be submitted, removed from the grid, and you will get a score from 0-100 based on how close your set of 5 comes to the optimum set of 5 (which will be shown as a 'Rank' on top out of the # of possible sets of 5 for the last choice). When you've answered all 9 sets of 5 leaving only 4 countries the quiz is over. You get a 500 point bonus for completing the sets making for a total possible score of 5000.

PLEASE NOTE - countries INCLUDED dependent territories EXCEPT for the 'Highest/Lowest Mean Temp' categories, which only applies to the 'main' portion of the country (i.e. no Greenland for Denmark for average temp).

This quiz is only available to Premium members.

World Country Administrative Divisions – Choose Country

First enter any country to choose it from the drop-down list. Then, name the administrative divisions shown for that country. I tried to use first-level administrative divisions but in some cases they are 2nd level. The divisions sometimes are official and sometimes just census-based areas - some small countries may not have administrative divisions and you may be naming island/atolls/etc. Divisions are ordered by highest population first. Some alternate names are accepted but for many you must know the full division name. Overseas territories are usually not included for countries unless they are parts of that country's administrative divisions.

For a handful of countries (more to come) I have multiple options, so for France you will see 'France 1st' and 'France 2nd' - this corresponds to 1st and 2nd level administrative divisions options.

2nd-level divisions may take a few moments to load (especially US counties).

5441

Borders may be disjointed, and in some cases where there are multiple separate border segments the full border may not be shown.

Use the following abbreviations for these countries:
Central African Republic - CAR
Dem Rep of the Congo - DRC
Republic of the Congo - Congo
United Arab Emirates - UAE
United Kingdom - UK
United States - US

First enter 'beg', 'int', 'adv', or 'exp' to begin. Beginner corresponds to 60 points, intermediate to 70 points, advanced to 80 points and expert to 90 points. This is the number of points you will need to score drawing each country to get to continue on to the next country. The object is to complete as many countries as you can.

You'll be freehand drawing the countries of the World. When the quiz loads on the right side you will be told which country to draw. To begin drawing a country, click Draw or right-click anywhere in the map to enter drawing mode. Click and drag the mouse to make an outline of the country. Release the mouse to 'close' the country and it will appear green. If happy and ready to submit, click submit or double-click the drawn country. Click erase or right-click the country to erase it and try again. You may have to wait a few moments for your score on larger countries.

You continue to the next country as long as your points for the last country meet the minimum (60, 70, 80, or 90) based on the level you chose. Otherwise the game is over.

You are only drawing the main portion of each country – do not worry about any disjointed islands, etc. Island countries (or predominantly island countries) are not included.

When you submit a country you are scored on the % of your country which contains the actual country (shown as '% In Country') and the % of the actual country contained in your country (shown as '% Of Country'). These average out to create your points for that country.

hugequiz Premium members will see the actual outlines of the countries when the quiz is over.

Upon clicking START you will be given a flag at the top of the grid of all flags of countries which border at least one other country. Given the country flag, double-click on the flag of the country that the given country's flag has the longest border with. For example, if you get the US flag at top, you are trying to double-click the flag of the country with which the US shares the longest border. You get 100 points for getting that country correct, and less than 100 for any other bordering countries based on how long that border is compared with the longest.

You only have 5 minutes to get all 25 countries.

Borders are land borders only, including causeways but not including only man-made structures. Borders include dependent territory borders.

World Country/Territory By CIA World Factbook Description

Name the country or dependent territory given the CIA World Factbook 'Background' section for that country/territory. You can type '.' at any time during an answer to clear the answer box (to save time backspacing an incorrect guess). Countries/territories chosen at random from over 250 total. Points based on time to answer. You are given up to 25 total countries/territories, and a max of 45 seconds for each.

The word (country) will replace any country-related words that would give away the country name in the description.

Some background sections won't entirely fit in the box but the vast majority will be shown.

Or try this quiz without territories.

574

World Dependent Territories Identifier

Double-click on the red marker of the territory listed. Correct guesses will change the marker from red to green - incorrect will not change any marker. Complete all territories to save your score.

Some of these territories may have a different legal status than others, and often territories that are made up of multiple entities have been split into those entities.

Note - you may have to zoom in if a couple territories are close to each other to make sure you click on the correct one.

If by chance you don't see red markers, try refreshing the quiz.

397

World Dependent Territory Capitals

Name the capitals (in some cases 'de jure' or 'de facto') of the dependent territories of the world. Name of territory and country shown.

529

World Disputed Territories Identifier

Double-click on the colored marker of the disputed territory listed. Correct guesses will change the marker to green - incorrect will not change any marker. You can complete all locations to save your score or click End Quiz at any time also to save it. Dispute involves at least one independent country (as based on the 197 countries I use for my country quizzes). Some disputes may be mostly resolved but still partly disputed by one country.

Note - you may have to zoom in if a couple locations are close to each other to make sure you click on the correct one.

If by chance you don't see markers, try refreshing the quiz.

NOTE: sometimes a river is listed - this refers typically to islands within the river - the marker will be at the mouth of the river. If two locations are listed together they are close to each other and only one marker is placed corresponding to them.

243

World Enclaves & Exclaves

Name the world national enclaves and exclaves (including semi-enclaves/semi-exclaves and a few pene-enclaves/exclaves) shown on the map. For some you will need the locality, some the region, and occasionally just a country name if the entirety of the enclave does not fall under a name. This is not meant to be a complete list. Enclave/exclave may be a body of water.

660

World Enclaves & Exclaves Identifier

You will be shown a map with red markers for world national enclaves and exclaves (including semi-enclaves/semi-exclaves and a few pene-enclaves/exclaves). Double-click on the one specified to answer it. If you click on the correct answer, the marker will turn green. Otherwise no change will be made to the markers.

Note – you may want to zoom in if markers are close to one another to make sure you are clicking on the correct one.

If the red markers do not appear when the quiz is loaded, try refreshing the page.

121

World Expanding Circles Challenge – Your Location

First choose a level by typing '50.', '100', '250' or '500' - (need the period after '50' so 500 can be typed) then name the largest World 50K+ city in the circle/ring of that distance range (in km) as the rings expand outward from your location. You need to have your browser's location function working or the quiz will not load.

You MUST have a city within the initial distance you choose for your level - so this quiz will not work if you are not within a 50K+ city at the distance you chose to begin with.

When you run out of time or end the quiz, you will see the current ring's correct answer at right (under 'Answer Stats' by your coordinates).

For example, if you choose '250' - you will be shown a circle of radius 250 km centered at your location. Naming the largest city in this circle will cause another 'ring' of radius 250 km to appear outside that circle. You now need to name the largest World 50K+ city in that ring (but not within any previous circles/rings). If a city is not within the next ring of that distance, the ring will keep expanding by that distance until a city falls within it. So if a city doesn't fall within 250-500 km (assuming your level is 250 km), it will expand to be a 250-750 km ring, then 250-1000 km and so on until a city is found within the ring.

3935

World First-Level Administrative Divisions

Name the first-level administrative divisions of each world country. Vatican is only country not included. Population and type of division shown.

This list is constantly updated with new populations and division changes.

Quiz may take a moment to load.

World Flags Color Selection Challenge

The object of this quiz is to fill in each blank flag with the correct colors for that country. When you click START you will be shown a country and 12 colors on the right, these include the flag's color and random colors not in that flag. Click on colors that represent at least 5% of that country's flag. If you click a correct flag color it will fill in on the flag and that color box will get a green border. An incorrect color will show with a red border. Complete all the colors in the flag to move on to the next country. Completing 10 countries will end the quiz.

You get points for correct answers and minus points for incorrect answers. Correct answer points vary based on the number of flag colors, flags with more colors can have a higher possible point total.

634

World Flags With Exactly Two Colors Elimination

Name the world countries with exactly two different colors on their flag . Naming a country with more or less than two colors on their flag will end the quiz. Countries sorted A-Z in the answers. Any incorrect countries whose names must be typed to enter a correct country are omitted.

Please note: for Afghanistan, the internationally-recognized Islamic Republic of Afghanistan flag is used, not the Taliban flag.

1393

World Flags With Religious Symbols Elimination

Name the world countries with religious symbols on their flag . Naming a country without writing on their flag will end the quiz. Countries sorted A-Z within each religion in the answers.

For the purpose of this quiz, religious symbols were determined by a study by the Pew Research Center. Symbols on the flag had to have an intentional religious significance to be counted. A symbol that some may see as religious but for the purpose of that country's flag design isn't religious does not count.

1740

World Google Street View Challenge (Large Cities)

You will be given a Google Street View window randomly placed near the center of a 1M+ population world city in which you can move around in. Name the world city where you are located within two minutes. The faster you answer, the more points you get. Max points is 100 for guessing in 10 seconds or less. Keep in mind Google Street View does not cover a good portion of the globe so only covered cities can be shown. You will not get more than 2 India or 2 China cities.

1546

World Google Street View Country Streak Challenge

You will be presented with a random google street view image in a locality somewhere in the world where google street view has coverage. Name the country you are in within 2 minutes, trying to obtain the longest consecutive streak of countries. If you name an incorrect country the game will end. You must type in a '.' after the country name (some abbreviations such as US and UK accepted) for the answer to register. If you guess an incorrect country (not including countries that have no street view coverage and therefore are not in this quiz), the game will end and your score will be saved. You can then type 'start' to restart the quiz.

Please note - this quiz is only available to hugequiz Premium members, as it costs money for me to use the street view API and this quiz is more costly than the other street view ones.

Here is a list of accepted answers that currently have street view coverage (and wrong answers that will trigger the quiz ending):

unitedstates, germany, brazil, japan, russia, mexico, unitedkingdom, philippines, turkey, italy, spain, france, argentina, canada, colombia, malaysia, netherlands, indonesia, ukraine, bangladesh, poland, southkorea, vietnam, nigeria, thailand, southafrica, chile, peru, romania, tunisia, uganda, israel, taiwan, australia, guatemala, ghana, jordan, kenya, belarus, ecuador, belgium, finland, sweden, greece, hungary, norway, srilanka, bolivia, bulgaria, czechrepublic, dominicanrepublic, madagascar, portugal, serbia, senegal, palestine, newzealand, denmark, slovakia, switzerland, austria, uruguay, croatia, albania, cambodia, unitedarabemirates, botswana, estonia, bermuda, eswatini, ireland, latvia, andorra, iceland, luxembourg, singapore, lesotho, montenegro, slovenia, lithuania, macedonia, laos, kyrgyzstan

World Great Circle 3 Strikes Daily Challenge

Click START to begin. You will be shown a route between 2 world capital cities and the starting country will be shown as the upper left cell in the grid. No route will have less than 5 total countries. A new route will appear each day at midnight central US time.

Starting with the 2nd country (the first country is always your departure country), name the countries (see NAMING NOTE below) in order whose land territory (including dependent territories) you fly over to your destination. Capital routes are from the city centers NOT the airports. You are answering based on when you FIRST fly over them (occasionally you may fly over a country, then another, then the previous country again, do NOT list the first country twice). Each country is only answered once. The last country is generally the destination country, but not always (as you may have crossed over it previously then another country, then back over it to arrive).

You get 3 strikes before the quiz is over. Each wrong country guess is a strike.

NAMING NOTE - Most disputed territories are considered to be part of the country that administers them (such as Western Sahara as part of Morocco), unless there is joint administration in which case the territory is not counted as any country. To answer countries like 'Guinea' or 'Niger' put a '.' (period at the end) as they must be typed to enter another country, similar 'UK.' (with the period) can be typed for United Kingdom, as it must be typed to enter Ukraine.

World Grid Head To Head City Capture

This quiz is only available in Head-To-Head mode.

First, choose a difficulty by typing ‘beg’, ‘int’, ‘adv, or ‘exp’ – Beginner is 15 degrees, Intermediate 10 degrees, Advanced 5 degrees, and Expert 2.5 degrees. Then, take turns entering the largest city (min 50K population) in each grid square of the size based on your difficulty. Green squares contain answers. There will be a white (Player 1) and a black (Player 2) competitor - when you answer a square it will fill in with your color.

When you have a square with your color surrounded in all directions (north, south, east, west - whichever are available) by other squares also of your color, it becomes 'captured' and the city in that surrounded square has its population added to your score.

The player with the highest score at the end of the quiz wins.

So for example in this World quiz, Black has scored on Chicago (circled) and Anchorage, and white has scored on Madrid (circled) and Reykjavik.

hugequiz Premium members will see the top 25 missed cities at the end of the quiz as purple markers.

World Grid Path Challenge – All Cities

Choose a level by typing ‘beg’, ‘int’, ‘adv’, or ‘exp’ – beg level is 15 degree squares, int 10 degrees, adv 5 degree, and exp 2.5 degrees. Then, name any 50K+ World city to start with by entering it (cities with the same name will choose the largest city of that name first). The grid square you are starting in will turn yellow - you now must name any city in any one of the adjacent grid squares (not including diagonal) - so any grid square directly north, south, east or west of the yellow one. Naming a city in one of these squares will turn your original square red and the current newly named city square yellow - continue in the same way trying to make a path of as many squares as you can. You are not allowed to return to a red square, and if you get 'boxed in' with no squares left to complete the quiz will also end.

Be aware that as you name cities it will answer the largest city first, so if you are trying to answer a city in a square to the east but a larger city of that name occurs a square to the north, the north one will be answered.

PLEASE NOTE: You get TWO separate 'paths' to create - one within the Americas and one within Europe/Africa/Asia/Oceania. You can start on either side and hop over to the other side whenever, in which case you will have 2 yellow squares to continue paths on.

Obviously, due to the layout and separation of squares it will be impossible to complete all of them.

hugequiz Premium members will see the largest missed city in each possible next square at the end of the quiz as purple markers.

590

World Grid Population Challenge

First choose a grid size by typing '30', '20', or '10'. A grid of that size lat/long will be placed on the map (so if you choose '20' the grid width and height will be 20 degrees). Then, double click on the grid square with the highest population within it (based on world 10km x 10km population density estimates). The highest-population remaining square will give you 100 points, all the way down to 0 for the one with the smallest population. Try to obtain the most points by successively double-clicking on the highest-populated grid square.

414

World Grid Top 5 Challenge

Type 'easy' or 'hard' to begin the quiz. Easy is a 15-degree grid, hard is a 10-degree grid. Then, try to name the largest 50K+ cities in each square IN ORDER. To name a city, you must first click on the grid square to make it have a GREEN border. Then, type in the city answer for that square followed by a '.' (a period).

The squares will start with '0/5' (or maybe fewer cities if less exist in that square). Click on a square and enter the largest city in that square not yet answered (so, the largest city if you have yet to answer a city in that square). You will then have '1/5' and need to click on that square to name the 2nd largest city, and so on until you complete all the cities up to 5 (or less if less exist). If you name an incorrect city in a square it becomes 'locked' and turns red and you can no longer accumulate cities in that square.

You receive 1 point for the largest city in a square, 2 for the 2nd largest, and so on.

At the end of the quiz the largest remaining city you haven't named will be shown in each square.

Double-click the country to 'lock' it in place and you will obtain a score up to 100 based on how close the center of the country is to the actual center coordinates. Four small European countries begin placed in the Mediterranean between Spain and Italy (right above the white rectangle).

You can end the quiz at any time or double-click on all 44 countries to place them to end the quiz as well. There may be a couple instances of a country with portions that are disjointed (Azerbaijan for instance) - only the larger portion of the country is shown in this quiz.

hugequiz Premium users will see the correct outlines of the countries when the quiz is ended.

World Longest Borders By Country Challenge

The object of this quiz is to name the country with the longest shared border to the current shown country on the grid. You begin with the first (upper left) cell showing a country. Each country shown will have at least 2 other countries which have a land border with it (bridges not included). Name the country which borders this country for the longest distance. For example, if the shown country is Russia, you are trying to name a country which borders Russia and whose border with Russia is longer than any other country's border with Russia. Enter countries by typing the country name followed by a '.' to submit. Naming a country which doesn't border the current country will result in 0 points. 100 points corresponds to the country with the longest border, and points decrease based on the border distance compared to the longest shared border.

As you complete countries a new country will be shown and your score on the previous country will display. Complete all 25 countries to end the quiz. Only countries which border another are able to be submitted as answers.

Notes: two Pacific island groups are labeled according to their collective name (be it a country, territory, etc) and also have labels for separate island groups within them. Countries are the 197 sovereign states. Dep Terr are dependent territories. Adm Divisions are integral parts of countries, be they administrative divisions or Sections of a Sovereign State. De Facto State refers to a non-UN member state recognized as independent to some degree not included in the countries list. Other refers to a handful of special designations. Some of the entities may be disputed. I tried to make the typing easy by shortening the names unless a longer name is needed to accurately name the entity. IF AN ANTARCTIC CLAIM IS NOT NAMED TYPE (Country Name) followed by “Antarctica” to name the answer. If it has a name (other than so-and-so Antarctic Territory) you must type the name of the claimed Antarctic region. Antarctic claims are all below 60 deg South and DO NOT count toward any other category except Uninhabited. Uninhabited refers to entities which have no permanent settlement not including a base of revolving inhabitants (i.e. there needs to be a permanent year-round population of the same people). UN Non Self Gov refers to territories on the UN’s Non Self-Governing Territories List.

2212

World Random Grid Path Challenge – All Cities

Choose a level by typing ‘beg’, ‘int’, ‘adv’, or ‘exp’ – beg level is 15 degree squares, int 10 degrees, adv 5 degree, and exp 2.5 degrees. A randomly placed grid of that size will then be placed on the map.

391

World Random Grid Top 5 Challenge

Type 'easy' or 'hard' to begin the quiz. Easy is a 15-degree grid, hard is a 10-degree grid. The grid will be randomly placed on the map.

18

For example, if the shown country is Russia, you are trying to name a country which borders Russia and whose border with Russia is shorter than any other country’s border with Russia. Enter countries by typing the country name followed by a ‘.’ to submit. Naming a country which doesn’t border the current country will result in 0 points. 100 points corresponds to the country with the shortest border, and points decrease based on the border distance compared to the shortest shared border.
